An offset is great but he's going to need to follow with another implement of some sort to finish the seed bed, a tandem could do both potentially.

I'm no farmer. So this should not be planted for a food plot?

Doesn't make any difference, I wasn't planting anything, just getting rid of the weeds. I've rototilled ground before and it was no better than what is in the picture.

I would say that's not the norm but is possible under perfect soil conditions, there is a reason you don't see farmers pulling offsets but see tandems all the time at least around here.

Good point with a 100hp tractor pulling a 2 row no till rig or seed drill should be no problem.

Offsets are made to till up harder ground or that with more debris. They are more aggressive. A tandem disc won't cut in as hard as an offset. Farmers use tandems because the land is regularly worked, they provide a better finish, and not to mention you can pull a wider tandem disc then an offset.

Your talking about 2-4 acres total, or several times this? Growing up we managed about 50 acres of tillage. Small farm of my grandfather's. We would plant 10-15 acres of millet for hay and to be able to shoot dove over. Usually 5-10acres of corn, and when really working like a true farm, 30-50 acres of soybeans. Two 90 hp tractors, 8' pull behind disk. Usually would plow twice, row up and plant..... Ground had clay, no rocks. For your purpose, I'd find a 6to 8' plain disk, probably a simple harrow to flatten back down.. Go used, disk will last decades as long as it wasn't too abused.

I am talking about six or seven 2 acre plots distributed over 550 acres. maybe a few more smaller plots too.

OK, I have looked at that option but don't I need to turn in the lime and fertilizer? It seems that if i just throw it on these slopes it will just end up in the creek.....

Fertilizer can be placed in. I have never done lime but I would think that is very soluble.
