Historically, I've always tried to use the manned check out lines instead of the self check out to support the cashiers.

Never have and never will use self checkout. I'm paying enough for what I buy without providing free labor as a store checker. Also never give them my zip code, phone number of any other such info they ask for. Typically get: "Oh no, we just want the information to help improve...". Bullcrap. The only thing they want the info for is to enhance their analytics in order to be more profitable.

But I'm not obnoxious about it-- unless they push it. Usually just a simple "No thank your" or, "I'll pass thank you" is all that's needed and the clerk will just punch in something and complete the transaction.

While at a plumbing and electrical supply, I noticed a bottle of drain cleaner back on shelf Behring counter. There was a sign that said must be 21 and show I'd to buy. It was highly corrosive , stronger than lye. When I asked about it, they said it's also used to make meth. And they wonder why there teeth fall out. Crazy!

Several things to add, one grocery store chain up here scans the back of your driver license (has scandal code on back, who would have thunk it! To get the age. No getting around it. And all cashier have to be 21 to sell beer/wine. In MS Crack was the drug of choice, up here meth, first time I went for over the counter cold remedy I had to have questions about my health, BP taken and age proven. Seems really big problem, (oh, and only 2 boxes at a time) gee I only have a cold!

I suspect that they are getting A LOT more than your age. I wouldn't let them do it!
