New Ecoboost and 10 speed first look

Sounds like a lot of changes for just 30lbs of torque. There's some headspace on this thing...maybe a lot...and will just allow Ford to turn the dial up as competitors increase power. Will be interesting to see how far it's dialed up for Raptor duty. The current gen 3.5s are gaining 60hp and 80lb-ft with merely a mild tune and seem to be holding up well so this thing could be a real monster with dual fueling systems because the current gen runs out of fuel at about 600hp.

Yeah, the Sync 3 in my 2016 is a lot better than the Sync Don't Touch Me in my previous 2011.

They still put the oil filter in the hardest spot possible to change. The transmission still has no drain feature or dipstick. My two grips...

Do any new vehicles have automatic transmission dipstick and drains? I have three cars with automatics, the oldest being a 2008 and none have dipsticks or drains. You can only check the level with a removable plug.

I don't know about other makes and models, but I know my F250 has a drain plug. However, my raptor and F150 does not...makes no sense.

Every time I want to change the transmission fluid, I make such a mess. Then if you want to have the dealership do it, they don't even have a machine that warms the fluid past the point of the internal thermostat range so all the fluid in the sump and lines don't get totally flushed out. All their machine does is change the fluid in the cooler and lines, not the sump.

Do these new Ecoboosts , have a sort of dual fuel system now ? I read one thread forum about how Ford was using dual system to prevent buildup of carbon on the valves that normally would not occur in carbureted engines , because fuel washes the intake valve. But admit I don't understand what exactly Ford is up to with their Direct Injection that most makes have gone to. Maybe it is more serious in their Direct injection engines because turbo is down stream and carbon flying off valves is not good thing to enter turbos.

Cars, yeah, they seem to be avoiding dipsticks on the trans. I haven't seen a 1/2 ton on up that didn't have trans dipstick. As for a auto trans drain, seems like that is purely in the realm of commercial truck autos from Allison. Whenever I do a trans fluid change, is is a total pan off deal and new filter.

Fuel hits the back of the valve(s) with port fuel injection or a carburetor upon entry to the combustion chamber but since direct injection is just that then fuel doesn't enter the combustion chamber through the valve(s). Having duel fuel systems could benefit in hat it would allow some fuel to hit the back of the valves. Which if it wasn't for the crappy PCV system recycling burnt funk back into the engine it wouldn't be an issue. I think we all first heard about such a setup with the upcoming Ford GT and most of us figured it was to be able to achieve higher horsepower (600+) because the current EB system does run out of fuel at about 600ish and gas direct injection just hasn't really made it into the racing world much so extremely high flowing components just don't exist yet that I know of. So I am a little surprised to see it trickle down to the truck version so quickly. Although I'd think if having the scone port injection system helped carbon buildup so much that we'd be seeing it on the other EcoBoost motors....who knows...I'm done rambling...

I wonder if they will offer the 5.0 and 10 speed combo, its too bad the days of the manual transmission is gone in half-tons.

If so I hope it's better than the 6 speed they use with the 5.0. My work truck is a 2014 F150 with the 5.0 and 6 speed and the transmission is one of the worst parts of the truck. Under most conditions it works just fine, but it doesn't take much to trick it into a hard/jerky shift. The 6 speed on my 2007 Tundra never has a hard/jerky shift. The problem is mostly during on/off throttle situations....you're accelerating hard and have to suddenly let off the throttle, or you get on the throttle harder just before a normal shift point...that sort of stuff. A couple of times I thought parts were going to come out the bottom of the pan!
