I agree. It does sound like a dud injector pump.
I grew up on a hill country farm, (easy rolling to too-steep-for-a-tractor) and we had multipower gearboxes on both the 135 and 178, and both 2 wheel drive.
What tractor would you consider more suitable for you?

I have been looking at the LS XR37, they are quite a bit cheaper than the Kubota's. Just not sure about the longevity, can't find anyone who has had one very long.

Most of the tractor work I need to do is dirt work, auger, and occasional mowing

G'day i see earlier that you replaced the o rings on the throttle shafts my bet is that you haven't picked up the stop linkage properly in the top of the inj pump which is very easy to do might not hurt to lift the cover and check. I push the shaft through a bit so you can see the control cam and see that the pin goes into the hook properly.
