Hi
How hard and or expensive is it to replace a bad TA in a IH 350. I've never had any experience in replacing or repairing a TA on old Farmalls. Any and all info would be appreciated on the subject. I did not do much searching in forums on the subject.
Thanks

It won't be cheap and on some IH models, TA's aren't even available any longer.

Better check that out first...

There are several components to a mechanical TA that can be replaced a la carte. HyCapacity has everything you will need, and many CaseIH dealers use their stuff instead of OEM.
What are your symptoms?

Drive it and post back exactly how it drives. It WILL freewheel in TA mode; it's the nature of the mechanical TA beast.

You will likely find it drives OK in Direct and not at all in TA.

International dealers made a LOT of money in the 50s - 80s replacing TAs . Pulling them back under load , down hill or at the endrows kills them . The easiest fix is to delete it . You could get factory delete TA in most models in those years .If you want to repair it look at how you are going to use it . I myself would use them old Deeres .

Thanks for all the replies. Maybe I don't want a TA after all. I have never driven a 300 or 350 before. Here is the reason I wanted a Farmall w/TA. I currently own a Farmall H and I go on tractor club sponsored tractor rides and my biggest problem is starting out in 5th gear on inclines. I thought it would be easier to start out in 5th gear low range and then push lever into high range after moving, thus avoiding a stall out. On flat roads I have less problems. I have always thought the H & M-s biggest drawback is the 5th gear ratio. There is to much difference between 4th and 5th gear ratio-speed. just my personal opinion. I have talked to many Farmall H owners and they love the 5th gear speed.

I think you are wanting a tractor with TA for a good reason. And you are being spooked on the idea for less than accurate ones.
TA's can fail, can be made to fail, and also can live long and productive lives when treated right.
