Saw an ad on Craigslist for Titan tractors. What they claim sounds really good, but they don't show a physical address, just a phone# and a contact page. They also claim the Yanmars are good because they have sleeved engines, but they sell FX models, which another site claims don't have sleeved engines.

Anyone deal with these folks, and if so, are they reputable?

I haven't heard of them. When I go through their website, they do not show a physical address. Those tractors come from Vietnam having had a life in Japan and then working the fields in Vietnam before being reconditioned for the worldwide market. I have a Vietnamese reconditioned tractor and have had no issues with it. Some people will say those tractors are garbage. It all depends on the dealer you are dealing with and if they will step up to the plate when something is needed. Titan only offers an extended warranty that I imagine you have to pay for.

There are lots of threads in this forum on the VN rebuilts. The 'YNM' brand comes from I think the largest reconditioner/importer/wholesaler.

I don't think we've seen this 'Titan' retailer mentioned here before. Looks to me just somebody with good website-making skills but not much experience with Yanmars - he says they test the magneto and test that the carburetion is working properly. I'm not sure I would want that guy doing any warranty work. If they've been around long enough to even have a shop to do warranty work.

These are simply a gamble, many people have excellent luck since these Yanmars are pretty much indestructible, and a few customers get a tractor where the reconditioner didn't repair a problem despite the museum-quality paint job.

Here's a thread I linked to yesterday
. In summary the VN rebuilt was assembled with a fuel pump that had cracks in the cast iron body and a big chunk missing. (see the next to last photo in post #1). No way would a conscientious mechanic assemble a 'new reconditioned' tractor using junk parts like that. This experience points out that these 'rebuilders' have NO access to genuine Yanmar parts. If they need something expensive it has to be salvaged off another junker tractor.

I would definitely pay extra for an extended warranty (from the importer, not from some guy who bought one trailer load of rebuilts to re-sell) and only buy if the transport to send the tractor back for warranty work wasn't too expensive.

You pay your money and take your chances ... Most people win the gamble ...

haha, yea there is clue number TWO. "magneto and carburetion"!!!!!!!!!

The first clue like the OP pointed out is that FX series DO NOT have sleeved engines. That does not mean they are bad just means you cant resleeve them and rebuild them as easy in your yard. You will need to send it to a shop is a cylinder is bad out of round or gouged.

Anyone read the safety features of their tractors ??? ''Slip clutch also known as a PTO over run clutch''

LMAO!!! A slip clutch is not known as an over run clutch.. (At least not where I come from).. they are 2 totally different devices..

''the over run slip clutch acts like a ratchet '' LOL

I didn't even click the site, but yep good catch there not the same things??? NOt even go on the same things?

Has this guy ever done anything other than drive a tractor? I cant believe you would want to sell something and really not know anything about it.

Its nice to know that if they found metal in the transmission/filter, they cleaned it!!!

"The transmission is in good working condition. Hydraulic filter is new, or if metal, it has been cleaned"

Thanks y'all, you just verified what I suspected, as this is "a too good to be true" site. It appears they posted enough mumbo-jumbo to impress the ignorant(admittedly, on first reading, it did catch my attention;))

would you get a good tractor,or a piece of junk ?? I can't say.. you can get a piece of junk when buying anything used,, tractor, vehicle, lawnmower, etc.. All I'm saying is,,, I don't think he knows what he's talking about... An over run clutch is quite different than a slip clutch..What else does he say, that isn't true ??..
Does the 2 yr warranty cost xtra ?? I couldn't find where is says.. who would handle the warranty ,if he suddenly goes out of business ??
What ever you do,, I wish you the best

Buyer beware always. I like the acronym for NEW: "Never Ever Works", and has proven true to me a few times. I'll risk used and rebuilt to save room for food on the table. Plus dicker for the lowest price possible or walk away.

Thanks. One thing I'm not going to do is get Tractor Fever, and buy something without thoroughly researching it first. That's how I found out the FX series are non-sleeved, which raised the second flag for me. Sure, I'd like to get a tractor, but I'm also going to be the one working on it and buying parts for it too, and I don't want to spend more time working on it than running it, and spending more on parts and stuff than I paid for in the first place.

I didn't click the blog...if I did it was just bs tractor pics or something, maybe I really didn't click it!!

HOw do they think they can get away with that. At least reformat it and take your own pics? Idiots! I would at least pay a lawyer the $50 or whatever to make a call to them.

Heck go big like the Hollywood studios and issue a Copyright Infringement Takedown Notice to the ISP hosting that website.

Won't cost a thing. When their pages go dark they will notice. :mischievous:

They would probably need to hire an attorney to reassure the ISP that the rest of their content is legal before their website goes back online.

Cali have a better idea. I am not up on all this internet use/ownership stuff.

Well... asking nicely was a complete fail. Time to turn up the heat I guess.

Heck, I feel like I'm gambling on the "edge" spending a penny over $100 for a tool at HF!
Personally, I'd buy a 25 year old Green, Red, Blue or Orange tractor before I "went there''. That go's several of the newcomers that are now selling here in the State's.
