I really think there are two types of people on this issue. Those who do text and drive and those who lie about it. Sure, is it a bad habit, yes, but I think everyone does it at least some.

I have never texted period. Mainly because I don't know how. I have been known to answer my phone when I am in the truck, but that's about it.
I do avoid sending longer emails and such while driving, and avoid texting in heavy traffic or heavy weather. I just figured I'd chime in cause the 70% or whatever percentage of people who do text and drive (in some amount) never really speak up.
Edit: i guess I see it the same as changing radio stations, drinking coffee, eating a birger, or anything else you do while driving

Eat burger, hold sweet tea, shift and drive was always a bit rough when I drove a stick.I don't text because my hands are full with drink in the right hand and burger/donut in the left. Knee is busy steering.
