Texting while driving

I really think there are two types of people on this issue. Those who do text and drive and those who lie about it. Sure, is it a bad habit, yes, but I think everyone does it at least some.

I don't.. I will text while riding in a car, but not driving one.. too darn scary..I will talk on the phone, but not text on it.

No way. I can't even imagine enough of an emergency to get me to try texting while behind the wheel in a moving vehicle.

I do avoid sending longer emails and such while driving, and avoid texting in heavy traffic or heavy weather. I just figured I'd chime in cause the 70% or whatever percentage of people who do text and drive (in some amount) never really speak up.

Edit: i guess I see it the same as changing radio stations, drinking coffee, eating a birger, or anything else you do while driving

I have never texted period. Mainly because I don't know how. I have been known to answer my phone when I am in the truck, but that's about it.

My wife used to be like that. Hated the idea of texting.. Got her a smartphone and she tentatively texted some of her friend/relatives... she probably does 1000 a month now. I wasn't really keen on it myself until having to use it for work, but I embrace it now. The big deal is that it allows you to send a message that does not require the person on the other end to respond right now, they can respond at their timetable and you likewise. It is just another way to communicate in the pantheon of ways to communicate.. We are doing more or less the same thing here between you and I. You can read at your leisure and respond at your leisure or not.:)

Not even close. Those things you mention take seonds, texting occupies your mind for much longer periods. So does just talking on a phone and to some extent talking to a passenger.

Same here. I will answer a call but only to tell them to wait until I pull over.

I don't text because my hands are full with drink in the right hand and burger/donut in the left. Knee is busy steering.

Eat burger, hold sweet tea, shift and drive was always a bit rough when I drove a stick.
