No more V8 in F150?

I agree re the diesel, but BMW has a turbo 2.0 liter in its 328i package that has a tad more torque than our VW TDI 2.0 liter diesel. According to the car testers, they get it my applying more turbo boost in this engine, which is the same 2.0 liter with lesser hp and torque in the 320i. They may be using high CR like Mazda are or may be just getting the CR via the higher boost. Check it out on either the BMW site or the Edmunds site. You may get more specs on the Edmunds site. Then the gas engines start having the same NOx problems as the diesels, BUT they don't have to live with the DEF business. Ralph
DEF is not bad, it works fine and is down stream of mechanicals. EGR has been an issue but new designs are putting EGR gasses through the particulate filter first, that, with much cleaner fuels now at pumps and the issues have all but been solved. Fuels and technology have now caught up together. If CO2 is your thing, diesels produce less than gas. Diesel is superior fuel to gas. HS

Diesel really isn't a common thing in the half ton truck market. Ram's ecodiesel is not something I wanted as it's built more for fuel economy than towing, and the tow rating is too low for my needs. Nissan's new Cummins is simply attached to too much weight from the factory and is more than I want to drive daily. From the initial tests I've seen, it's not too impressive of a powerplant. I'm not into modifying $50k+ trucks to get more out of them. I'd rather pay the factory for what I need. I'd love to see Ford make a 5.0-5.5L "powerstroke" for the F150 with 350+HP and 500+Torque. I'd trade up in an instant.

Man!!! This thread is really getting tedious.....everyone will drive whatever they choose...personnally I want all the foot pounds of engery I can get at the LOWEST rpm...yeah, I'll take a BIG displ. Diesel (ie. 7.3L with Garret turbo) that makes 525 ft/lbs at just above IDLE--(1600rpm) , and will last 350,000 miles with normall maintenance. I have to laugh when I hear about some BMW 1.5L gas engine putting out 1500hp when the same company used to build only air cooled engines that flew against something like a V12 RR Merlin with a super charger; and with all that displacement only made 1710 or so HP in the P-51 Mustang. Personnally I don't care about all the high brow discussions, I only know what it feels like under my right foot when that F350 is pulling over 12000 pounds behind it. I'm sure that the flames are not far behind, but I'm also sure there are a lot of folks out there that agree with me. BobG in VA

I wouldn't get puffed up about Ford finally building a modern engine for Americans. A V6 with DOHC and 4 valves per cylinder is 100 years coming... High pressure TDi was invented by VW and Bosch. Ford is almost 20 years late to that party. Giving a name to this configuration is for low information types not knowing the real names of engine configurations, made it simple for dumb dumbs, eco boost. Nothing new here. It's existence is a response to government regulations. HS
Putting a Di, Turbo, Gas engine into a truck IS a new thing. Ford is the first to put them together in a truck.

Most heavy accord and lightest F150 are only 200lbs apart. 3800 for accord and just over 4000 for F150. HS
And a payload of 853# to 1,085# for the Accord vs 1,514# to 2,320# for the F150.
Also, the trailer towing capacity is just a little different. The Accord is rated for 1000# max trailer weight vs 5,000# to 12,200# for the F150.

Yeah, but other than that, an "F150 with V6 is like Honda Accord with a bed". ;)

This thread is proof of the saying "opinions are like buttholes. everyone has one and they all stink"...

Probably a LITTLE bit higher hp, torque and duty cycle ratings on an Ecoboost vs the engine in an Accord as well...

Bodies can rust on Accords. F150s are now aluminum.
