"Some people say, live and learn, I prefer watch and learn."

To learn and live is better. Heard a training tell one day "they say we learn by our mistakes, you can not afford that. Learn by others".

I find on youtube you often can find how to do something and then HOW NOT TO. Ever wonder why politician never make any how to videos?

Smart men learn from the mistakes of others, not so smart men learn from their own mistakes, and idiots do not learn from either.

I coulda got kilt yesterday. A Poplar tree from my property fell across the road in a small rain/wind storm. So I drove the Kubota out there and hooked it up and was pulling it away when "Bam", another tree broke away. This one fell across the primary electric wires feeding this dead end road. The wires came down for about 200 feet, but didn't fall on me or my rig. Boy was I lucky.....thus...."the things that we do and why"....

Hi Mike,

Glad you're around for the after action report!

Could you have predicted the other tree's fall if you had been more careful or looked closer before you pulled out the poplar?

If so, then now you know better and won't do it again, and if not, then you couldn't have done anything different anyway, and say a prayer of thanks for the Good Lord watching out for you when Murphy wasn't.

Again, glad you're still around!
Thomas

The best way to trim a tree is to make the first cut about 2 feet above the ground. :D

After watching that limb cutting video I've been 4 months trying to figure the best way to trim the limbs on a tree in my back yard, 2 weeks ago I made the the decision to finally trim that tree. I took your advice and cut the darn thing down, just didn't wanna get hurt trimming a tree, it was a good size Ash tree.
I had my son record the felling or falling, almost a perfect landing, it will probably stay where it is till fall. It had several limbs way up high that was interfering with my skeet shooting.
