Anyone own a 2540?

You're right jmh1783 - I've looked closer at Mike's link. That Campway dealer is either confused, or being deceptive. Clearly they used the same picture for their advertisement of the "2540 Cab" and the "2538 Cab". And in both pictures it is indeed a 2538 HST. In the description of the 2540 they also say it is available if HST... I think they are just confused...

If you are concerned about ground engaging power, I would encourage you to private message LA Confederate and ask how he likes the way his 2538 HST handles his 2 bottom plow. I think that would be a really good testament to grunt and capability. His garden rows sure look good!

Take care!

The 2540 Cab would have bee a strong recommend to a friend down the road who very much wants a Cab for winter and summer duties but wants a smaller wood hauler and a strong loader for yard work. He lives on a privately maintained rural road. I really like the huge front tires.

Snowback: I like your hauling setup. I don't own a pickup and probably won't be getting one. My commute is too long. In any case the only reason I'd need to haul my tractor is to the dealer. Hopefully I won't find that economically justifiable. :)

I'm kind of conflicted on the cab idea aside from the expense. It would surely be nice to have AC while mowing for 3 hours in our hot humid summers. On the other hand I feel a cab separates you from the outdoors. The major reason I'm buying property is for the outdoors. I'll probably go with the 2540. I had never driven a gear transmission before starting my tractor hunt. Never learned to drive stick in a car. I did learn on a motorcycle but they don't really count. I was sure I'd prefer HST but I like the gear better. My back and forth loader work will be occasional at best.

Has anyone looked at the TYM version? My closest dealer is an hour and a half away. Looking at the specs and the owner's manual I can see why TYM bought Branson for their engines. The Mahindra engines are much better.

I'm a gear guy, but straight gears in a tractor are a pain. HST can be a pain too. My Mitsubishi Max28 has a good shuttle. I usually have no problems shifting on the fly and I really like the way it shifts. I wonder how the TYM shuttles are? Loader work is easier with an HST, but for my use, I like shuttle.

Just a quick tip on Cabs... windows are expensive... you will be puckered working around any trees once you pay for the first one... its a well put together set up though the 2538cab

Id go with the 1538 over the 2540... and the 4540 as well

Navasot: Good point. The new property has 5.5 acres of woods but I dont intend to take the tractor in there. I didnt like the rocker pedal on the 1538. I also got my foot trapped between the forward part of the pedal and the brakes.

Hi there! I know this is a few months old.. I just bought my 2540 a month ago, already have 19 hours on it and I am real impress with it plenty of power to spare. I got with a standard duty rotary cutter and a box blade and FEL. I went with the 2540 just because it has a little more power on the PTO.. I used the toy 7 hours and it only use a little less than 3 gallons.

I test drove a 1538 HST and couldn't wait to get off of the thing finding the rocker pedal awkward and uncomfortable. I bought a 1538 shuttle. Maybe a two pedal HST would be better but then you'd have to get a TYM 2500 series machine if you want a Mahindra.

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up going with the 2555 HST. I'm glad I ended up going hydro. My pastures are very rough and I'm always changing speeds when mowing or even just driving across them.

I think that's a two pedal so it might be a bit more comfortable to drive. I've never driven one but would like to sometime. It seems like a better arrangement but like most things I guess it's largely a matter of personal taste.
