Purchase experience with Barlow Equipment

Bought my first tractor from them about 12 years ago, a BX2200 FEL MMM. Have bought and traded around 20 more from them since then with a settled on price a couple of days ago for a B2650 FEL SSQA and SSQA 60" bucket Rear filled tires and extra Hyd attach for front and going to ask for chain hook to be added to front bucket top and believe they will do it for no additional cost :D . OK, delivery is only 7 miles to my house or 2 miles to my business but I do have to pay Ky state sales tax on the trade difference when a trade of full 6% if it's a straight purchase with no trade in.
Their delivery charge is based on the ones they deliver so if other people in your area or in between you and them have items delivered the charge is divided amongst everyone is my understanding.

I seem to remember an older thread where someone in Washington bought one.

But you could probably use a good summer drive from Kentucky to California :)

Would love to make the trip... the smaller 500 RTV would fit in the back of the pickup... as long as I had everything secured... too many friends traveling cross country stayed overnight somewhere only to find their trailer broken in or the entire rig gone... really sad state.

Did a Coast to Coast when I flew to Charlottesville Virginia to drive home a 1968 Z28 Camaro to California... stopped along the way to see the sights... great trip... just could have used A/C!

Had my brother call the volume Kubota Dealer here in Washington yesterday and he was told they would not sell to him... sent an e-mail to T.C. at Kitsap Kubota to see if this is on the level... lots of my neighbors have nothing but good to say about Kitsap Tractor and Equipment in Silverdale... does sound very strange especially since their website is very aggressive.

Say what? Why not?

BTW, it hurts nothing to give Barlows a call or email and ask the price. They will get you a quote including shipping if you give them an address. Just beware that any "dealer boo-boos" like I had will be hard to get remedied...

Hey, John, I'm curious. What price did you get it for (the B2650)?

Only dealings I've had with Barlow's is filters and oil, but their a top notch outfit in my book.

Barlows delivered my B2650 FEL SSQA 2 bucket hooks, R4s loaded rear tires, added front hydraulics and at the last minute I added a 50" rear turn Landpride tiller. Back to a Kubota tractor and out of the skid steer which is now at Barlows.

I just got a quote from Brady at Barlow's in KY. I am looking at a 3301 (maybe 2501). Any way I got a quote from Ahearn Equipment in Spencer, MA (next town over from me). They quoted me a price for a 3301 with quick attach loader, turf tires, HST and 4x4 at $22,300 including the $1,500 in rebates. Looks like retail minus rebates plus a $1k gift card after you purchase tractor.

Barlows was $20,900 for the same tractor including delivery from KY to MA. How can they beat another dealer by that much $$$? My only concern with the 3301 is the tier IV, thats why I'm looking at the 2501 (no tier IV). This pricing was with the 0% option.

Well that price from Barlows is without taxes.

Both quotes are without taxes. I would need to add the 6.25% for MA sales/use tax to both quotes. So I would actually pay $134.38 less in tax as Barlow's price is $2,150 less than Ahearn. There is $750 delivery built into that $20,900 that is non-taxable. This pricing from Barlows beats Ahearn and Norfolk Power Equipment (both in MA). Both of these guys sell at list minus rebates.

So if you like the local guys, tell them you have a better quote at $X and see what they will do. What have you got to lose? From my experience, the sale transaction at Barlows was great but the assembly work they did on my unit was awful. If you can get close to the same price locally (after another round of negotiation) then that would be worth it as you can easily call them back to fix anything they hosed up since they are local. You are only $1k off, so I bet they could come close. In my case it was like $3-4k on sale price, so it was very substantial. I just didn't expect the bush league assembly work from a high volume dealer. (And that is how they make it up - lower margins, big volume.) I just wish they had put it together right so I didn't have to redo half the things they did. Others have had better experiences with Barlows. This was mine. FWIW

They can beat them because they know they will never see the tractor ever again. They don't have to have a service department big enough to handle all the tractors they sell which saves them a lot of money.

My only concern would be issues from delivery. If I purchase locally, I can tell them to come and pick it up and fix it. If I buy from Barlows or Messicks then I am screwed if there are assembly issues. I am not too concerned, but it is a consideration. My main concern is the tier IV with the filter and dealing with regens. Area dealers won't come down any lower in price, I have checked again. I just need to time my purchase so they can combine my delivery with another one in the general area. That will save on the delivery charge as they can put multiple tractors on one load.

Your a little confused. Nothing stays on warranty forever and dealers do get paid for warranty work. After warranty goes off almost every machine needs some type service and that's where a dealership makes their money, service department, not usually in sales department.
The reason he sells for less is he doesn't live an extravagant life style and lives in a modest home and values how much people have had to work to earn their money. He apparently has determined an amount profit to make on each new sale and that's how he prices them, locally or shipped. I'm the locally buyer.
All Kubota dealers get the same machine for the same price on the same day when it is sold and comes off Kubotas inventory. Some times a dealer owns a new machine but not usually. Barlows gladly takes trade ins and sells (services in his large service department) lots of used machines that he does own. I usually trade my machines back to him and he has always been fair to me on the trade in price. (Around 20 buys/trades with Barlows in 12 years).
