I skidded out some really nice red oak saw logs today, here's a few of them,

My cheapo HF snatch blocks got a good work out today! You can see my helper out there un-hooking one of them...

My chains go dull just looking at those.

J/k! That's some nice wood.

What are proof lines?
Wow, that IS big. I might just try one out. Aluminum for the wheel (pulley) is a bit of a concern.
Mine homemade is steel, and the cable leaves marks on it!

The Warn snatchblock (GG) is interesting cuz it has proof lines scribed into it to tell you when
you are stretching the eye-holes.

BCP's Champion units are indeed inexpensive, but why is it so hard for sellers to publish the
important specs?

RUSTYIRON: I want to see your pix, too.

Anyway, great info on snatches, gentlemen. Thanks for the great posts.

Took down an old cherry tree that was left over from when the yard was an orchard. It died a couple of years ago so it came right out without so much as a bump.

I'll use the wood for smoking.

What are proof lines?

If the block gets too much stress and starts to deform or stretch the lines will show the deformation and will not be straight and parallel.

I know you wash 'em. I have buckets full of dirty water at my place. :D My tractor's never gotten a bath yet either for that matter.

Cut this little red oak today while the rain was on it's way (again).

I didn't measure it off when I cut it, but I think the three logs are all around 10' each.

I'm contemplating what to do with them. Try for a local mill, sell on CL, borrow a buddy's Alaskan rig and rough them out myself?

The two bottom logs were all my loader could get up without any added ballast. I've got my winch off because of my mud hole I'm fighting. Rear end was pretty light even with the grapple curled under. That's what 4wd's for right? :D
