What size beam did you use for the 24 foot unsupported span?

Along the 24' there is a post at 12 feet. The load bearing beam in that 12' is made of two 2 x 8 x 12' sandwiched together.

On the gable ends and at the 12' center there are 2 x 8's on each side of the 6" post. These are the non load bearing and they span 20 feet.

We put up the trusses yesterday but then Bonnie moved in, uninvited I might add. :D

There were 13 altogether and they weren't too awful bad but sure was glad to find the bottom of the pile in that hot afternoon sun. The check for the house roof replacement came in the mail yesterday, just in time so that we can purchase shingles to match the house roof. (Severe hailstorm a few weeks ago decimated the house roof which now has to be replaced.)

Glad to have this much work behind us now. Joked with the wife and said we were tired and just going to staple a tarp to the trusses and "call it good." She didn't smile. LOL!

What are you going to use for decking? I personally thing OSB is superior to plywood, but either work. Don't forget to use H clips between the trusses on your decking, and stagger your joints.

Haven't purchased that material yet. What thickness OSB do you recommend? We will have architectural shingles on it to match the new house roof.

7/16's is used on tens of millions of homes all over the country. It's good for spacing up to 24 inches. Sadly, the cost is on the high side right now. It fluctuates from under $7 a sheet to twice that. I just saw it for $11 the other day.

Good deal, my trusses are 24" OC. I'll be curious to see what our price is here in WNC.

On the roof edge on the gable end overhang should the roof deck extend or be flush with the rafter?

X2 on the 7/16 OSB. I'm not up on prices but that's what we always used. Looking good so far!

The gable end roof does not have to extend past the wall. In most homes that's done to add appeal to the look of the house, and also to keep a little water off of the walls. Some houses have gable vents, and if you do that, it's important, but since you don't have a gable vent, it's not needed.

If you decide to do that, there is a lot of work to do it right. In your case, I would decide if that's the look you want, and if so, we can go forward with what you need to do to make it happen. If not, then don't worry about it.

I like gable overhangs, just a personnal preference.
