Hello.
New here very impressed with the advice I have read. Just bought a new Kubota B2601 with a 4' Land Pride brush cutter. Can I cut with the FEL on? or do I need to remove the entire loader assembly every time I want to mow. The tractor/loader will be stored on gravel not a concrete flat surface.
A lot to learn on this, very excited.

Thanks all.

I leave the loader on if I am mowing areas with heavy brush and small trees where I don't want the front of the tractor torn up. In areas with tight turns and larger trees I take the bucket off for easier maneuvering. I use my bucket almost daily and even with the quick disconnect I generally leave it on. Just depends on the circumstance. In all my years of tractor ownership, over 45 years and 18 units, I do not ever remember taking the whole loader frame off for any reason, just the bucket.

Thanks Utopia.
Man that Ratchet Rake would help me out a lot in the N.W woods where I live. Lots of Vine Maple.

You can order a Ratchet Rake from the T-B-N store. Beware, one of the two RR buttons within the store is inoperative. (Go to top of this page.)

I have some hills, so i always leave the FEL on and even add in several buckets of rocks for counter balance..

Absolutely leave my FEL on when I bush hog. It helps knock down high growth and provides counterweight. I actually will sometimes carry some sort in the bucket for more weight.

FEL and bucket on here. In tall grass that I havent cut before I lower the bucket to catch stumps, rocks and other non-mowables to save damage.

Loader and brush bull are frequently working together in my life.

I used to be like utopia and never took my loader off. That's because all the loaders we had growing up were a major pain to remove and a even bigger pain to reinstall, so we never took them off. I'd become so used to them just always being there that taking the new ones off seemed pointless. Then I started taking the loader off my Kubota on occasions. I'm almost over my phobia of loader removal.

Word of wisdom, make sure when you do take it off it's as level as possible and that the feet are on something solid.

That being said, for me, when the bush hog is on so is the loader. Like said before, it's great for flattening brush and moving downed trees in the way.

The only time I have taken my loader frame off is to make a repair on the tractor. Sometimes take the bucket off on really hot days for better air flow. I will sometimes run it just off the ground when in tall grass to help find things before they hit the cutter

Of course you can. On my tractors I have had with loaders I have never taken them off.

Only time i take my loader of while bush hogging is when i have an open field that i can mow above 5 or 6 mph. Loader bounces around to much and beats up the pins even with no bucket. As others have stated its great in brush for pushing stuff over or keeping low when creeping through unknown areas such as to find large foreign objects like stumps, cinder blocks or rocks.

Since I have a QA bucket I drop that off, but I have never removed the arms. In rough areas I keep the bucket on to help find hidden objects.

I never keep my loader frame on when I use my Bush Hog rotary cutter. It gets in the way of maneuvering around all the trees I have to mow around. It's much easier to work around the trees without it. It only takes a few minutes to remove or re-install it. But having a concrete surface to park it on does help. I add suitcase weights to the front of the tractor to maintain stability when it's off.

I don't like taking my loaders off. If I have alot of mowing to do in areas I have mowed before, I'll take the loader off to save the pins, but I'll throw on my suitcase weights to keep the front end on the ground. Even dropping the bucket off makes a big difference in ride and turning ability eve if its only for vision alone.

It's interesting reading all the different reasons for bush hogging with or without the loader.

As a rule I don't bush hog trees down as they are rather rare in this part of the country.

I don't mind removing my loader as I like the tractor better without it. It takes so little time and you don't have to pay attention to this monstrosity in front of you.

I never remove the loader or even the bucket when bush hogging. Just yesterday I was mowing with my BIL's NH with 6 foot mower and hay spear on the front. I just tilted it all the way up to gain more clearance between trees and make it more visible. I had no problem mowing close to tree with it on, no more so than if I had the whole loader off.

It was handy also for moving a large limb that was in the way of mowing, just speared it and pushed it to a brush pile nearby. I also moved a couple of 36"x10' long logs to be able to mow the area. We were going to move them to a brush pile to burn but my BIL decided to just let them rot in place.
Other than the bouncing around, I don't find the FEL to be of significant distraction when mowing. When coming to a fence, I just raise it up to clear the fence and then I can mow just as close as if I didn't have it on.
