4720 Tire Help

My used 2005 4720 came with R4 OTR tires: 10-16.5 on the front, and 420/70-24 on the rear. Front tires are pretty well worn out. Manual says fronts should be 12-16.5 and rears 17.5-24. Seems my tire sizes are mismatched maybe?? From what I can tell a 17.5-24 is roughly 49" diameter, and the 420/70 this tractor came with is only equal to a 16.9-24. Does that sound right? If I put the 12-16.5 on the front, my tires are going to be fighting each other wont they? Probably why the fronts are wore out and backs look good right now?

Sounds mismatched, I always wondered about this. If you travel straight on concrete or paved road does the 4wd bind and the lever get stuck and hard to put in 2wd? If so, do you have to reverse to be able to shift out of 4wd?

Depends on the particular tire package that it was ordered with. The combination you have is one of the many that is correct for that model. If I remember right you have what was called the IND10 package on the dealer price list. Was used on the 2810 up to 3510 models. Been selling Bransons for 13 years now and the only time we have replaced a rear tire was due to a puncture. Finally getting some with rears needing to be replaced due to wear. Have replaced too many sets of front tires to remember how many.

After looking at a newer sheet, I do see the IND10 sizes match. Can you go with the larger sizes no problem? And since I believe its only the width on the fronts, I went ahead and ordered 12x16.5 fronts, I hope that wont be an issue?

Also, as far as I know, my 2005 does not have the option to disengage 4wd correct?

Wow, amazing how far equipment travels. The 12x16.5 will be taller. Sidewall height is determined by width x aspect ratio. Dont remember what the aspect ratio is off the top of my head but will be taller. Like the old 7.50 - 15 used on half ton pickups decades ago, aspect ratio isnt on the sidewall. Yes you can disengage the front wheel assist. Want to say its the second lever from the left behind your feet, under the seat, as your sitting on it.

You have the 2810/3510 tire package on your unit. Not normal for the larger tractor, but it was an option for guys wanting to stay more low profile. I'd suggest that you stay with the 10x16.5 fronts to keep the ratios correct.

Yes you can disengage 4wd, it's just a lever.

I do see that now, I was wondering what that lever did. Odd sticker.

Dave, would the IND25 package fit the same rims as the IND10? 12-16.5 and the 16.9-24?

If so, maybe Ill just order the rears and install those.

And I stand corrected, its the IND20 package I have, not the IND10. Just wondering at this point if I can run the IND25 on the same rims the IND20 came on.

Yep, finally checked at work today and had forgot how small the old IND10 where. IND25 rear is 16.9 x 24. 420/70x24 is same width lower profile.

Perfect, I think I will upgrade then. Fronts are already here and are 12x16.5. I think I could sell my rears for almost half the cost of the new ones, so its a win win.
