Anyone actually flipped a HST CUT pulling from the 3pth?

Given that there are people who can break an anvil with a rubber mallet . Then sure there probably has been somebody who has flipped a hydrostatic CUT while yanking on something. YouTube has plenty of videos that while make you cringe as the operator backs up and takes a full speed run to yank a tree out.

Problem with all of these arguments is if I had asked the same question about geared tractors I would've gotten dozens (or more) stories of flips and near misses (including from me).
It just is not the same level of risk.

The real problem with asking operators if they've flipped their tractor is that a good proportion, (?majority), of those who have done it did not live to fill out your survey form! And, of those who did survive many wouldn't talk about it. And of itself the few who would talk about it, half are still trying to get their shorts cleaned.

Next week we will have a survey on who has accidentally shot themselves in the head.

Wow. I assumed you were joking before.

This is like trying to reason with a religious fanatics...
I blame network news and the U.N.

TBN kool-aid!

I was joking but it happens to be the truth. Valid surveys need to account for reporting bias. Your "survey" is a textbook example of garbage in garbage out. I don't know what you thought you'd learn with this survey. You seem to have an agenda. Better to just state your opinions and let the TBN peanut gallery join in.

I'm afraid I never claimed this to be a survey so I'm not sure what to make of your comment.

However, it is a pretty low bar to just ask for an anecdotal account. Surly a risk worth mitigating must have some realistic probablity of ocurring?

As far as what I'd hope to learn:
I might have been surprised and found someone (or better yet several people) who had actually had such a mishap.
Or even known of someone... since apparently it is 100% fatal. Which is of course a ridiculous assumption even if all modern HST tractors weren't equipped with rops/seatbelt that at least some people must utilize.

My agenda is that I thought it might be an interesting conversation. I manage risk (life and death) for a living. Part of that is constantly "calibrating" what is the real-world probably of an adverse event occurring. Anecdotal case reports all the the way to randomized controled trials are an important part of that.

Avoiding all action (i.e. never getting on your tractor) is one way to avoid risk. Another way is to limit especially high risk actions that have low-risk alternatives. The problem is if you become too risk adverse your task either becomes prohibitively inefficient or 'safety fatigue' occurs.

Safety fatigue results in inattention to the highest risk actions. Paradoxically trying to worry about too many things actually makes you MORE PRONE TO MISSHAP.

I'm definitely not looking for a fight so I'm truly sorry if I come/came across that way. I'm still not very good a conveying tone in this format. Nearly all of my writing experience has be in a 'scientific' setting.

I think this is a TBN myth; that you should ONLY ever pull from the draw bar. Period. End of story.

Certainly a geared tractor can easily be flipped by pulling from above the rear axle height (i.e. the 3pth). Theoretically a HST equipped tractor can be flipped the same way if you ignored all instincts and didn't take your foot off the pedal.

So my question: has anyone actually flipped a HST CUT over backwards from pulling?

Not from a boom pole and not just getting light in the front end. Don't care if you got the front wheels off the ground. Don't care what stories you've heard about a friend of a friend. For this thread, don't care what the manual says. Don't care about geared tractors or HST tractors with cruise control engaged

Have any of YOU flipped?

This is one of the most ridiculous threads that I have ever read. It seems tthe agenda is how many responses they can get on a post. if I wasn't laid up in the house in 95 degree heat with a bad knee, I wouldn't even waste my time on such trash. Ignore list there they go!!!

How many of you did a tractor wheelie hitting a tree branch with ROPs? I did, my wife did it also. Then I cut the branch.

You are new here, there are other threads that actually are ridiculous. I don't think this is one. Have you read the pallet thread? . HST does not give you the option of popping the clutch for a good fast pull, so, does that mean flipping over backwards is eliminated. Usually if someone dies in the community the community knows what happened so the dead person does not have to report. So far no one has heard of HST flipping over backwards, good to know, not that it can't be done just hasn't happened yet to the knowledge of this group.

At least there is something poetic about making the most ridiculous post in the most ridiculous thread! Hope your knee gets better but I would've thought Mars would be hotter. :confused3:
