Yes they have. My comment was tongue in cheek.

I am surprised some members don't want cast iron body panels.

But - But, then they will shatter in the cold winter months!:):D:):dance1:

Two points that seemed to be basically overlooked here in the rush to stand behind their favorite brand. First, who in their right minds would drop crap from 8- 10 feet into their brand new $60,000 pickup. Maybe Bill Gates can afford that luxury, but even he is not that wasteful. If you intend to abuse a piece of equipment that harshly, you certainly would not have bought any half ton pickup. Maybe a two ton dump truck. Incase you who love bowties failed to notice the Chevy bed was trashed also. Second point most missed was GM currently has a completely aluminum 1/2 ton in development and due in show rooms by 2020. Like it or not Ford trucks are outselling Chevy/GMC by a ratio of 3 to 2 on a national level. GM truck sales are down 11%, Ford is up 14% since intro of new F150. That is the reason for the "attack ad" and GM's decision to convert to all aluminum. GM sales are dropping, and most seem to vote with their dollars in favor of Ford.

Am I the only one that noticed that they didn't show in the video when the bricks dropped into the bed on the ford. Only the Chevy Truck did they show it. Very good chance with the toolbox being rigged and with loader hight different that they may have dropped the blocks many times into the f150 to get that much damage

How well would the spray in liners work? I've heard good things about them, no actual experience though.

Ronnie
Spray in liners wouldn't help at all from dents due to thin metal underneath.

Neither of those points were overlooked, just disregarded as BS by those that like the ad and hate Ford... Apparently there are tons of folk who always set toolboxes on their bedrails. Also according to these types, EVERYONE buys trucks to beat on them and if you don't you must be some sorta nancy who wanted to haul groceries and go to the mall. They're also saying "you are wrong" in your statement that the Chevy bed is trashed too since steel can be deformed farther from it's original structure and still retain strength. Oh, and sales numbers aren't a sign of quality, just how dumb Ford's fanatical buyers are.

Actually, if ya read up on it, Chevy claims to have done all tests a dozen times or some such. The marketing video editors I'm sure took the camera angles and test shots they felt would best make their point and spliced them together for the best dramatization they could come up with (never giving thought to the fact it makes them look like deceptive dweebs the more ya see and learn about the ad).

I've heard that most of the high end spray in liners would improve dent resistance, but finding a company that applies it as thick as is specified by the manufacturer is next to impossible. From everything I've read and heard, most installations found "in the wild" are only about 25-30% as thick as they should be.

Oh, and sales numbers aren't a sign of quality...

Already covered, McDonald's anyone? Perhaps in your opinion McDonalds is the best burger. You may also think the Chinese imports that have flooded our country are because the quality is better, there certainly a lot of what others know to be crap products being imported by China that outsell domestic made products, at least the domestic manufacturers that are still in business.

The funny thing is all of this over a truck bed. There isn't enough major difference in any of the truck manufacturers to make any of them a poor decision.

I never claimed sales make quality, except perhaps resale values. No, I don't think McDonalds or Chinese imports are of good quality, which is why I refuse to purchase a GM product and quit eating from McDonalds after I was no longer a teenager...

No time to search for where I saw it nearly ten years ago, not that I really care to at this point, but I remember seeing a video of the GM head honcho speaking over in China bragging about how they've migrated most (80% if I remember right) of the part manufacturing to China and within ten years they would be shipping entire vehicles out of China for global sales. What I consider to be evil about GM, is rather than bragging it up to the entire world that they're migrating manufacturing of parts and assembly of entire cars to China for global distribution, they use their advertising dollars to prevent these tidbits of information from getting much coverage.

Yes, it is funny that the thread all started over a truck bed. When the Ford owners dismissed it as a ridiculous level of stupidity and abuse, the Ford haters started throwing in all sorts of other dis-information to try and make a point. In my opinion they failed.

I do agree that the trucks built today are among the best trucks ever built, capability-wise especially. There are some pretty vast differences in the numbers, whether you are looking at price, payload, fuel economy, or crash test ratings... It's easier than ever to make a wrong decision when you have needs that must be met. Doing the research and reading is the only way to be an informed consumer. Sadly, most folk don't want to be informed. That's why the Chinese imports and McDonalds do so well...
