Faucet replacement

Seeing the pictures; use bigger wrenches, don't just wrench on the valve. Make sure you put a wrench on the 90.

Also it would not be that big of deal to sweat that off and just sweat on a new drop eared 90.

I agree. Two pipe wrenches would take this apart easily. I didn't realize the 90 was exposed like that. Without being there, I'm pretty sure I would probably just put one pipe wrench on the valve, close to the 90 so the handle is going straight out to the side and use my body weight to get it loose. If that doesn't work, tapping the end of the wrench with a hammer usually gets it done.

If you need a little more leverage to get it off.. I've got a couple 48'' pipe wrenches I can send ya:D

Them things is heavy! And the Aluminum version always seem to have a rough ended stubby handle.

I would take a 14 or 18" pipe wrench and hold back on the elbow and another one on the valve and horse it off. If it breaks, it was shot any way. I bet it unscrews. You may have to loosen it from the house to get a good grip on the elbow.

I always avoid pipe wrenches whenever I can use a flare wrench... the difference is I have never damaged Brass or Copper with a flare wrench and this is not always the case with a pipe wrench that has the capability to crush.

I've ordered a Sharkbite elbow and new ball valve faucet from Amazon. Should be delivered this week.

The new elbow and faucet have been installed. Removed old elbow/valve by cutting the copper pipe, assembled these 3 pieces using some latex tape on threads, then slipped the Sharkbite on the pipe. So far no leaks. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Always nice to wrap up a project...

Should be good for many years going forward.
