So, um... could you maybe be getting pretty close to being a hydrostat lover?:D not that I am asking or anything....

Probably still in the denial phase....

Looks like your working that machine big time. If you get a spinner, get the real McCoy.

The cut looks very good for how thick the grass looks and the speed you were running, makes me think I need to put a edge on my blades. Fuel usage is probably about right, I don't use quite that much with my 5240 but I'm usually not running that fast either so it's less load. Most light load jobs and finish mowing I seem to use .8 - 1.4 gph and heavier loads are around 2 gph.

Yep, blades had a freshly sharpened edge. As good as I do for my ZTR. Any job I get into that is gonna require butting brush or saplings or just unknown, I use my bushhog 306, and they are a blunt edge blade, and lots lower blade speed. With the lower blade speed they suck for grass anyway. But if I know I am doing a job like this, or the jobs I do every year or multiple times a year, high blade speed and sharp blades are what I like.

Was never a HST hater. Just never owned or had experience with one. For the mowing that I do, consisting of ~60-70% of the hours I put on a machine now, I'll take the few HP cut at the PTO to gain that infinite speed control. I can see it really speeding up my time once I get a bigger mower

Yep, infinate speed control is pretty sweet for mowing, but wait until you have about 8 hours of loader work ahead of you and you will really appreciate it. Your left knee will love it:)

If it is like here, it is next to impossible to find anyone interested and dependable to hay anything on relatively small acreage. Over the years we've had two who asked to do ours, but they might or might not show up. I got tired of waiting on them and having mine untended and just bush hog it myself.
