Anyone actually flipped a HST CUT pulling from the 3pth?

A video of that would be worth some money on you-tube I am sure.. "fat man chases lawn tractor and actually catches it"

Laughed Out Loud, I did. :D

I think most people are used to a HST being foot controlled. Some of the older ones with a hand lever that was not spring loaded to N can act just as a gear trans and if it is possible with a gear trans, then it should also be possible with the hand lever control. IMO.

True, but to be fair, when you're winching, the tractor is static and the winch is supposed to be on the ground. And when dragging, your supposed to move the load to somewhere lower on the winch (as I understand it. I've never used one).

Its not a CUT, but speaking of lawnmowers, I flipped a Cub Cadet LT1050 over backwards (then sideways).
I was going up a steep hill when it started spinning its wheels (tires were junk). It slide over and dropped down over a 8" lip, then the tractor went over backwards and then flipped sideways.

Mine was the LT1040.. Its replacement is no where near as front end light. I went to a JD. Much better lawn tractor.

It got replaced with a Cub Cadet 3000 series (3120?) which had chains on the rear tires.

Let's extend this thread a touch, and ask if anyone else flipped over a tractor backwards, no matter if it was a hydro, clutch or petal power........

Rolled sideways only - my wide stance zero turn lawnmower. I was cutting pond edge on a steep slope and the drive wheel caved in where a muskrat had dug underneath. Dropped the wheel about 12" immediately and it slowly went over. I jumped clear - into the pond - as it went completely upside down in the pond. No real damage - just bent the zero turn levers.

It was enough of close call that bought the sickle bar mower to cut the pond edge.

Appreciate your input but the dexta was a dry clutch geared tractor. With a VERY real risk of flipping backwards! And without a ROPS and seatbelt there was a VERY significant chance of serious injury.

This thread was about HST equipped CUTs. With which no one in this large community has reported even knowing of someone who has flipped one (except for one third hand 'might-possably-have-been' story.

When I started this thread I really though it would be rare but there would be something... at least second-hand. :confused3:

Its not a might , possibly have been! The man is dead! His tractor was HST and it did flip over backwards if you want to believe otherwise because I didn't bother getting every specific detail of how the accident occurred and what safety devices he did and didn't have on his tractor or what if any were being used then that's your mistake!

Tractors are dangerous and even with a HST being less likely to flip they still can and do and not admitting to and respecting that fact will probably get you killed just as quickly as side stepping the clutch on an old gear tractor when the circumstances are right for it. As I said before I have had them off the ground and know they will come up. So if they can come up while pulling they certainly can come up and over when the land dictates certain things and the driver ignores others!

This question will yield skewed results. The ones that died can't respond. I lost a neighbor to this type of accident.
