Good morning!!!!

a warm 77 degrees already at 6am, going up to 90 today. Really lucked out with weather on the beach trip, hot but remarkably windy. Which meant kite flying yesterday was a huge success, near the water at the rv resort with several acres of open land, and all I had to do was let out the line and the kites took off. And all was fun until the one kite tied around a tree let loose, never saw it until we looked up and no kite. About ten minutes later a maintenance golf cart came toodling up and with a big smile the guy said that asked if we lost this? Almost came down on his head the entire other side of the property. So one kite returned unharmed. Adventures with second kite not so good. Flew awesomely, 6 foot long orange octopus with long streamers for legs. Up, up it went, lot of pull on the line since it was blowing over 20mph out. And then the plastic grip slipped out of my hand and off it went across the open area. I sprinted after the line, ran half way across the open field, but it was accelerating a lot faster than I was. I for sure can't run 20mph...;) So I gave up and watched it fly over into a packed area of permanent rv homes and trailers. Geez. Line hung up on the shingles of one home, continued over the top of a neighboring rv, wrapped around that guy's a/c unit, and landed fifty feet further back.
After fiddling with this for ten minutes, I gave up and cut the line. Lots of extra line so no big deal, but I sure learned you have to hold on tight in high winds. Basically a great deal of fun playing like little kids and lots of folks drove by on their golf carts to compliment the kites.

Three hours on the beach, all the sun I could take, very rough water with heavy undertow, densely packed waves breaking quite a ways out, too hard to swim in. My metal detecting efforts netted me one roofing nail, that's it...at least it was good I got the nail off the beach. But no doubloons....

Going to swim in their pool this morning and then drive home this afternoon. Lots of mowing and watering to go home to.

I can't upload pics til I get home, but I got a few of some Marine Reserves VTOL jets (Harrier types) landing at a nearby airbase. Wow are those things loud when they switch to vertical operation.
Their flight path came right over our area curving back to the airport, and they were slowing down so much I kept looking at them thinking no jet can fly that slow. No normal jet...
Definitely not a stealth machine; sounds like a thousand crazed leaf blowers going by.

Thunderstorm underway and 70. Should get up to 86 and more rain.

Eric, our news had been full of "Brexit" stories. Many opinions, but I think we should keep our noses out of Great Britain's business. Speaking of the Clash's song - they play it all the time in a TV commercial for a hotel chain, I think. Interesting how we hear all the songs we had when young on today's commercials.

Very nice motorcycles. Always wanted one when I was younger...like RNG said, never too late, is it?

When I was working I always took a day of vacation on my wife's birthday and took her on a day trip to an interesting place in Virginia (and once to Maryland to visit Annapolis). Living in central Virginia, it is easy to get to the mountains, beach, Chesapeake Bay or the DC area in one to two hours.

Yesterday we visited Little Washington...not the one where Drew lives, but in northern Virginia at the base of the mountains. It's a small village settled in the 1740s. George Washington laid out the town by surveying the streets when he was a teenager. Great place with a world famous Inn.

Nearby was a distillery giving tours and tastings of their rye, gin, and whisky. They use an old method of spreading damp barley on the floor of an old warehouse at 60 degrees to malt it, a method the owner learned living in Scotland. The barley is grown near the Bay, trucked in to make their single malt, etc, and then the used mash is fed to livestock. Taking a big sniff of the pure uncut grain alcohol coming out of the still just about knocked me down. Always nice to see people so passionate about their craft.

Back to hanging metal on building. Then get rest of chickens ready to migrate.

Kind of a rough night on The North Bluff.
Stuff all over the place but we did pretty good.

Way worse than I thought, Our neighbor next to Brian lost the east end of their new roof and his shed out back is flat, It was falling down anyhow but it is flat now. Most of it is in Lonnie and Brian's front yard big trees down to. Down the road there is a house with no roof at all but in town all is well. I have not gone east where they said it touched down but for sure it went right over Moo and Oink's and Brian.

Guess I will clean up when I get home from up north. See ya all in a few days.

I'll bet George Washington, owned, surveyed or lived, more places than anyone in history! :D Where I grew up in northeastern NC, there are several historical markers regarding his surveying the Dismal Swamp canal, owning land, etc... Here on the Eastern Shore about 7 miles south in Princess Anne, he's said to have been part owner and stayed in the old hotel there. That dude got around!

Storms hit about 7 this morning and the rain is pouring.

that's funny. I grew up about five miles North of where Washington crossed the Delaware River to attack Trenton NJ. So the joke with anyone with old houses (ours was 1720) was to be able to say
Washington slept here.
That man had marketing power...and he did get around, but likely not everywhere reported

68.5F at the nearest (operating) weather station, which is about 3 or 4 miles away, heavily overcast here. That weather station shows 0.9" of precip since midnight, which is good as we needed the rain.

There was a large area that was under flash flood warnings last night, with rainfall rates of up to 5" per hour. It included the counties directly to the south and west of us. Since we are in the southwest corner of our county, I figured we might catch some of it. The lightening and thunder was starting to flash and rumble just as I fell asleep around midnight. Woke up at 02:00 and it sounded like a freight train was right outside the house ... it subsided within a couple minutes and I went back to sleep. Dunno what that was all about ... can't find any reports of wind damage or tornados.

Managed to get entire lawn mowed yesterday before it all blew in.

Likely will be too wet to do anything outside for the rest of the day, so an inside day today.
