We have quite a few song dogs around our place recently our neighbors dog , a cocker spaniel was in a fit to go outside and she let him out. The coyotes immediately descended on it and he was totally consumed. This doesn't happen with our 85 pound German shepherd. A few weeks later our neighbor on the outher side heard a commotion near the back of the pasture along our fence line. She investigated and found one of our Red Brangus cows had a couple of coyotes pinned against the hog wire fence and was pounding the snot out of them. They stay away from our place now but I still hear tales of missing cats and small dogs.

Yeah we had black Angus that would chase any coyote' out of their field.

What would be the weapon of choice if you wanted to dispatch one?

I would suggest a 243 Win with a 1:9 twist barrel and Hornady 95gr SST Superformance ammo. Given all of my bad Remington experiences, I suggest a Savage model 10. Don't get a model 11 with the cheesy plastic stock and magazine. The model 10 has a somewhat decent stock and a metal detachable magazine. The accutrigger is a very good factory trigger.
