So, opinions: should I get a Lariat of the old 2016 style F350 or an XLT of the redesigned 2017 style F350? Price will be about the same, and technologically the interior of the redesign is probably pretty equal or better then the lariat of the new design.

Obviously, I haven't driven one, but the updated 2017 seems like it will be better in every way....many of which will make a difference. More power, better frame, etc, etc.

May not be the case for everybody, but I've had much better luck buying models that are at the end of a production run than one that is all new. Reason being it takes companies a while to sort out any issues whenever they make changes. IE: Had a 2006 Chev and had amazing luck with it, and waited until there was a new body style coming out and did the same thing again, bought a 2014 2500HD rather than a new body style 2015 that has the exact same frame and driveline anyways. Haven't had any issues with this truck yet, no squeaks or rattles, all the issues have been sorted out since it was the same body since 2007 basically. Also buying the first of a new body or driveline, you are basically the companies testers, and rarely do they get things right first try on everything. I had an 02 2500HD and it was no where near as good as the 06 despite being basically the same model. You can save a lot of money buying a model that's got an update coming out soon too, dealerships want them gone before the new ones arrive, good luck getting the same deal on a brand new body style.

I do that with our cars, saves lots of money. Pickups I hang onto forever, bought my last one in 1998. Saves even more money :D

1985 and 1991 here... will keep running them as long as possible.

They both take 235-15 tires that are NOW special order because I guess trucks have not taken this size for a long time... just shows how out of date I am when the most popular truck tire is now special order or a non-stock item.

the good deal on the old model vs the price jump on the new one is why it would be a loaded old model and a more basic new one to keep it in my budget.

I'm with Kyle on this one. My last 3 trucks were end of model run trucks. The reliability of them were very good. 1992 F250 4x4 extended cab with naturally aspirated 7.3, 2003 F350 4x4 dually with the last 7.3 turbos, and my current 2007 Chevy 3/4 HD 6.0 classic body. I know that the newer 07 6.0 has more HP but I get along nicely with my current truck. I'll be 57 in a couple of months and plan to buy a new truck when I retire in 5 years. By then a 1 ton single wheel rear diesel Ford loaded will be north of 80K. May have to settle for an older model.

Never thought that ride would be so important when buying a 1 ton tuck, lol.
I have the opportunity to drive different trucks regularly and IMO the Chevy / GMC is the worst for handling "bumps", but ride is pretty far down on the priority list on why I would or wouldn't buy a 1 ton truck. I currently drive a '02 F350 SRW (7.3) which I am the original owner and consider it a great truck, but I would certainly own any of the three brands mentioned here. I am leaning heavy towards a Ford, but I want say never on any of them and ride will definitely not be the deciding factor.

it isn't that it is the ultimate deciding factor, but all three brands will meet and exceed our needs as far as power train and payload/towing capacity Also the prices are very comparable between the three. So what is left, basically which one do we like driving the best. I asked my wife if she could picture driving the ram on a long RV summer vacation and she said no. Well that says a lot.

I thought the Ram just had big change made in their suspension on heavy duty trucks, supposed to "ride like a car".
It will be interesting to see and drive the 2017 Ford Super Duty, it may out ride them all, but sure to be $$.
