No... no one I vote for stands a chance... it's the kiss of death... at least it seems so.

At one time I was very active in city and state issues... spoke at capital hearings and plenty of council meetings... for all the time and effort nothing to show for it... it's as if the hearings are just a formality because the course has already been plotted and set.

Did you ever meet George Schnieder? He retired from the city of Oakland as a city planner. He ran for Park Commissioner every year just to mess with them. The only guy I ever met who loved fighting city hall!!!

Indiana Moonshine? :D

You should try California wines some time. From Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino counties/wine regions.

The neighbor down the road who contracts my apple orchard grows wine grapes on some other parcels. His grapes go to a vintner whose wines sell in the $90/bottle range.

Ok that's the good side of California.

We also have in this neighborhood people coming in and building ridiculous weekend mansions (advertised as 'Make a Statement' :irked: ) in the middle of vineyards. In the case of my immediate next door neighbor who is new to California, in an old orchard like mine. He has - I kid you not - a 'concierge' to prep the place for him before his occasional weekend visits. My parcel and his were unfenced for 100+ years. For years his small orchard and mine were farmed jointly by the guy who does mine. The new 'concierge' (a misplaced New Yorker) convinced this new owner he needs to fence his orchard because in her words 'fences make good neighbors'. At least I persuaded him to go half on a joint fence surrounding both parcels, no fence between us. This actually has become needed because everyone else nearby has converted from apples to fenced vineyards so we got all the deer that have nowhere else to go. Today I saw 7 bucks, 2 does, 2 fawns, far more than we had before everyone within miles fenced their parcels. This unnatural concentration of deer is murdering any new apple trees. It finally has become necessary to fence them out. Next week when our fence is complete, will mark the end of the free range era here. 'May you live in interesting times'. This is a land of constant change.
