- Getting old. Sold the ranch. Sold the tractors. Moved back to the city.
North of SF is like a different State. The SF area sucks but I like the northern part of the state, and the people are a lot different too. Then again I think all cities suck no matter where they are.
That different state will be called "The State of Jefferson" if the CA secessionists have their way. Not holding my breath since those folks have been at it for 100 years or so.
I had a nice 10 acre ranch in Tehama County (120 miles north of Sacramento) for 10 years. My first taste of life in the country. It was just a flat hayfield with a couple dozen old almond trees when I bought it in Dec 2005.
Loved every minute it spent there. Large enough acreage to keep me busy with building projects, growing hay (until the drought hit 5 years ago). Nice, friendly neighbors. Quiet. Rural unincorporated area. Nearest town was Corning, CA population 7500 or so--small town life.
Had a million dollar view from my front porch: North (Mt. Shasta), East (Mt. Lassen), Northwest (Trinity Alps), West (Coast Range).
Enjoyed the 14 years I lived in Orange County, CA. But life in Northern CA is much better for the spirit, IMHO.
