A magnetic pickup tool, long needle nose pliers might work.
If all else fails turn the tractor over and shake it good that worked for my cat last year.

For magnetic objects use a magnetic retrieval tool for non magnetic objects some chewing gum on a stick. Barring that, dynomite.

I'm curious. Is Vaaljapie Ferguson in another language or is it a specific model of Ferguson? I believe the op lives in Zimbabwe.

I dont know why its called a Vaaljapie, but it is a TO-20 Ferguson (export version of TE-20) as far as I know. The manuals are the same.

If its a t?-20 the starter drive probably fell off in the bellhousing. A 3 jaw might get it.. But the flywheel and ring hear make it hard to see unless you have a borescope to go with it.
There is plenty of storage space down there, but occasionally the parts tide the ring hear and bust out a chunk of bellhousing.

Before you go fishing around with a magnet make sure there is no electrical to come in contact with or to be safe disconnect the battery before you do it.

There is no steering wheel compartment.. And the starter is on the bellhousing. English is probably not his first language..

I wasn't trying to "zing" anybody. I simply offered what I thought to be helpful advice. For all I knew he was holding said starter part in his hand when he dropped it into the steering wheel compartment.
SOME people just like to be antagonistic I guess.
