Some people like iT just don't think it's a big deal. After all the AG is just closing a loophole. Perhaps, he and others can understand the following analogies, borrowed from anther site:

1. Think of it like the drug laws. The laws on the books say that illegal opioids like heroin are banned and that selling/using them are criminal offenses. No imagine that the attorney general puts out a press release tomorrow saying that all opioids are "copycat" heroin making prescription painkillers illegal overnight and threatening your dentist and yourself with possible future arrest as being a drug dealer and illegal drug user because he prescribed you 3 oxycontin after your last root canal 3 years ago.

2. Think of it like cars. We all know that it's illegal to drag race on the public roads. Now imagine that the attorney general puts out a notice tomorrow that any vehicle sharing the same "operating mechanism" or "similar parts" as a race car is illegal to sell and is technically illegal to possess but she's not going to enforce that just yet. You're now a "felon in waiting" because you own a car that has an internal combustion engine (the same operating system as a race car) and tires (similar parts) and at any moment you may be given the choice of "turn in your car by the end of the month or go to jail".

3. Think of it in terms of gay marriage. Many states still have sodomy laws on the books even though they're not enforced. Imagine that you wake up tomorrow to see an op-ed in the paper by the attorney general that's backed by the full force of her office saying that her reinterpretation is to begin strictly enforcing those sodomy laws and that anyone performing a wedding for two people of the same sex is committing a felony and that "for now" she won't prosecute any same-sex married couples, but technically she could because they're breaking the law even though they thought it was legal last year when they got married.

That about sums up where gun stores and gun owners in Massachusetts are right now.

Sorry OldPilgrim but your analogies are off base.

Narcotics can be prescribed by practitioners with appropriate licenses. We may very well see a tightening of rules for prescription of narcotics because frankly it is out of control and killing innocent people who become addicted. A hundred years ago no limits were placed on narcotic drugs. Now we control them.

It is illegal to modify vehicles in ways that endangers the public already. Even some "silly" laws like rules limiting tinting of windows are in place. Certainly you cannot choose to turn your Mustang into a fuelly dragster and hope to drive it on a public road anywhere in the US legally.

Massachusetts was ?the first state to rule that same sex marriage was protected under the state constitution. We have a very strong record of preserving individual liberty.

The people of MA are basically happy that open carry is prohibited and CCW limited and requires "may issue" controls. The assault rifle law is similar. It is popular and constitutional. The gun makers tried an end around and the AG is simply clarifying that silly rule busting changes to gun design will not be tolerated.

MA is certainly not gun free and we have lots of hunters. This change in the law really doesn't get more than a few people excited at all. You are all upset because your Daddy the NRA thinks the sky is falling and told you to protest. Go ahead. We have freedom of speech and responsible citizens in MA. If the citizenry really wants to enable gun manufacturers to circumvent our laws then they will let the AG know in the next election. Don't hold your breath.

You don't have a constitutionally protected right to a car. You analogy doesn't make sense. Your State can do anything they want with cars, but not people's protected rights! If you can't abide by constitution maybe your State should leave. HS

SCOTUS hasn't had any trouble with MA gun laws. Period.

Only the gun manufacturers and their mouth piece the NRA complain.

I'm a member of the NRA, and the NRA is not a "mouthpiece" for the gun manufacturers...that's typical lefty BS coming from typical lefty.
Gun manufacturers do sponsor some of the NRA social activities...no different than companies sponsoring sporting events.

No, IT. Old Pilgrims analogy was spot on. Your rebuttal fell very short. What the AG did was not lawful. The firearms manufacturers followed the law.

IT, the NRA speaks for its members, like me for instance. By The way I am a life member, and proud of that fact.

This shows you know nothing about Ma laws, don't understand what the AG is doing and simply won't try to understand what is happening....like nearly all libs.

Ma has no law that prohibits open carry. If you don't believe me check Ma general laws, chapter 140, section 131, paragraph (a). There is no mention of how to carry, only the act of carrying. Many people open carry.

This change in the law really doesn't get more than a few people excited at all. You are all upset because your Daddy the NRA thinks the sky is falling and told you to protest.

5000 at the statehouse and the thousands of others around the state is hardly a few.

Why is it libs always have to resort to insults? Liberalism has been said to be mental disorder. I tend to believe them.

I give up. Nothing more from me here. Most seem to get it, thanks go to them, and a warning: if the Liberal AG here can unilaterally change laws here, then lib AG's around the national may well likely do the same.

Mods, perhaps you should close this thread before it goes full ******.

No doubt about that...just look at what's going on at the DemocRATic National Convention in Philly...they're practicing cannibalism.
