Some people like iT just don't think it's a big deal. After all the AG is just closing a loophole. Perhaps, he and others can understand the following analogies, borrowed from anther site:
1. Think of it like the drug laws. The laws on the books say that illegal opioids like heroin are banned and that selling/using them are criminal offenses. No imagine that the attorney general puts out a press release tomorrow saying that all opioids are "copycat" heroin making prescription painkillers illegal overnight and threatening your dentist and yourself with possible future arrest as being a drug dealer and illegal drug user because he prescribed you 3 oxycontin after your last root canal 3 years ago.
2. Think of it like cars. We all know that it's illegal to drag race on the public roads. Now imagine that the attorney general puts out a notice tomorrow that any vehicle sharing the same "operating mechanism" or "similar parts" as a race car is illegal to sell and is technically illegal to possess but she's not going to enforce that just yet. You're now a "felon in waiting" because you own a car that has an internal combustion engine (the same operating system as a race car) and tires (similar parts) and at any moment you may be given the choice of "turn in your car by the end of the month or go to jail".
3. Think of it in terms of gay marriage. Many states still have sodomy laws on the books even though they're not enforced. Imagine that you wake up tomorrow to see an op-ed in the paper by the attorney general that's backed by the full force of her office saying that her reinterpretation is to begin strictly enforcing those sodomy laws and that anyone performing a wedding for two people of the same sex is committing a felony and that "for now" she won't prosecute any same-sex married couples, but technically she could because they're breaking the law even though they thought it was legal last year when they got married.
That about sums up where gun stores and gun owners in Massachusetts are right now.
