The way that the residential central units are being built these days you are doing the right thing. See my picture post on the "good morning" thread about my central AC evaporator change out today.

Yeah but your weather is better, cooler nights. I was almost convinced to go with the Chiltrix chiller mini splits, but the Mitsubishi's were cheaper installed than I could buy the components for with the chillers, then I would have had to install them. My goal is to be living in the main house by Christmas and it will be pushing it as it is.

Interesting... our cooler nights help, dead of summer and it is easily managed with 1/2 your AC here.
Good luck, and I have to remind myself that this is what I wanted to do, and to just keep working. Enjoy it!

I haven't checked that thread today Don, it is my usual morning coffee routine. I knew from day one there would not be a ducted heat pump or conventional system here but we considered geothermal but the cost is just too high. It is the same reason we went with on demand hot water, the savings and reliability makes it worth it.

The 6 tons is slightly overkill according to the manual j report but with mini splits it is not bad to have more than needed.

You two guys are too cute comparing notes! I see a visit/vacation coming up some day.
This thread reminds me how blessed I am that our TN EMC is still "old school". They cut our powerline clearing over 600 yards and about 200 ft wide, ran our powerline and poles aerial, then underground the last 100 ft to two houses. Clearing was $800, powerline was $4,000. We were supposed to get a partial rebate of the powerline cost if we completed construction within 2 years but we were tardy since we were doing most of the construction ourselves on weekends. I sure know what you mean by the "is your house finished" questions!
Our EMC did give me sticker shock like you though when I asked about underground the whole way. Code here requires a concrete vault, every 250 ft IIRC, and it would definitely have required blasting, at least for the vaults. Forgot the estimated price because I try to put unpleasant things like that out of my memory.

Just kind of guessing here, but it looks like your ROI will be about 10 years or even a little less? Nice setup and it sounds like you have learned a lot.
