Moving a ton of pellets with my 3 point hitch

Have a new 2538 with forks for the front. Tractor is not rated to lift a ton and it cannot. The back is rated to be able to so I am thinking about a set of rear forks for it. Any recommendations that can lift a ton? Put a quick hitch type setup on and use my front forks? More money for the quick hitch but would probably never use it for anything other than forks. What do you folks use?

A ton of wood pellets is a lot of weight.I have a Kioti 40hp tractor with front loader that is capable of lifting a ton.I have my rear tires loaded plus wheel weights and I use a 1,000 lbs. ballast box when I unload my ton of wood pellets.IMHO you would not have enough weight to keep the front end of your tractor on the ground.

Coobie's reply is what I was thinking, too. Even if you can lift 2000 lbs on your 3 point, your front end will be lifting or at least light, and moving around would be iffy. A loader full of gravel will counteract that issue, but still... Better to spit the pallet?

I have 20 tons of pellets sitting behind my pole barn that I will need to bring to my garage on an as needed basis. I could load the bucket but not sure it is needed for the amount of times I would need to do this. In the winter time I am just hoping to scoop up a ton and go. If I do need to take some off I would stay with my front forks only. I am lazy. It will be cold out. I am old. Insert anything else here that comes to mind

After looking at the website I don't think that tractor is going to do that.

FEL is only rated at 1,600 at the pins and that may not include the weight of the forks or the QA system if you added one. You are trying to lift 2,000 at around 24" from the pins. The 3 point might be rated for 2,600 but again that's probably at the pins, not 24" out. I doubt it would do it but from the rear is the way to go as the loader will act as a counterweight and the weight will be on the larger rear axle.

I had a CUT slightly larger than yours and was really disappointed with what I could actually lift with the FEL and that was with a heavy box blade on back. Keep in mind you tractor only weighs about 4,000 pounds so you are trying to lift half it's weight.

I know about the ratings but wish I new the real world of what it can lift. If it cannot lift the ton then no need for forks. I already have a set that cannot lift a ton. I do not see me needing a rear set for anything else I can think of. Wonder if anyone on here with a 2538 has tried it.

I only have front forks and not near the capacity as the rear. The front is not close to lifting it.

You certainly can. Put the bucket on the front and pull up to the pallet and put about 500 pounds of pellets in the bucket. Then grab that snazzy $200 3 point fork set (You will likely find other uses for it anyway). Back that puppy up to the pallet, raise the 3 point and you will be able to move 2,000 pounds of pellets with your tractor.

If it were me, I would either find a set of 3 pth forks I could borrow or buy from a place that understands you will try them and if not happen you can return for full refund and try it. Based upon the specs on rear lift and you having fel on the tractor and if the pellets are do not extend back far and if the ton of pellets are not in a box that weighs a lot..(enough if's?) think you will be loaded but fine. Not sure if industry specs or not but at least on my JD and Kubota those tractors give 3pth lift capacity at 24 inches from pin location is about how it is worded. As to the forks you are pushing the weight limits here so you do not heavy forks and I think if you get 3pth mounting plate to use the forks you now have you are eating into the weight limit. The mounting plates I have seen are heavy. kt

Why not just put 2 pins and a top link bracket on the forks you have, then give it a try.
