Thanks Jeff, I'll review it.

Question: My box scrapper says its rated for 40 to 90 HP. Does that mean that a 35HP would not pull it through the dirt and 100 HP would damage it? I guess I'm not understanding the broad range in HP requirement for the attachment?

I'm really new so "preach" away :)

My Gannon HSD 72" box scrapper says its a CLASS 2 "hitch class"

Bugger! Most of the tractors in the 40-90 HP range are a Cat 1 3PH... its a dimensions thing.

Yes, the R1 is the Ag tyre = skinnier with a higher tread . The R4 is the 'industrial' tyre = wider with a flatter tread (a good all-purpose/uses). The third tyre you'll hear about will be the 'turf' = used for, well, turf conditions or on paved surfaces.

I've got un-loaded R4 on my 4105 and I'll go out now and measure the width for you... AND I'm back with an approximate distance of 66".

I also just popped onto the Tractordata.com site for my rig... under tires/tyres it only lists R1 tyres. That doesn't mean that that is the only type of tyre that you can have fitted. When you get your own tractor you can have whatever tyres you want, it just means that the tractor comes with R1s as standard, the dealership will usually swap them out for the tyres and wheels that they fit.

66" huh? Yeap, the Tractordata said 65.8" so pretty accurate. Do you like your 4105? I'm thinking a John Deere but there are so many different models my head is spinning.

Would 100 HP would damage it?

Gannon makes heavy duty, heavy weight Box Blades. Full of dirt, especially moist dirt, they are a major load behind the tractor. Tractor weight is as important as horsepower in doing work, however horsepower is usually spec'ed because that is simple. It is unlikely a 35-horsepower tractor would have either the power or traction to pull a loaded Gannon Box Blade. There are no 35-horsepower tractors with a Category 2, Three Point Hitch.

Box Blade engineers have to choose Box Blade construction parameters to match tractor parameters of some kind.

I understand Jeff, do you know the John Deere line very well?

If so, what 2002 through 2009 tractor would you say would match up the best with my Gannon HSD 72" box scrapper? I want to spend about 20K (less of course if I can).

I'm thinking a John Deere but there are so many different models my head is spinning.

You know you need a tractor with either a dual Category 1/2 or Category 2 Three Point Hitch. That will eliminate several "Category 1" models.

Then you want the heaviest 4-WD tractor within your budget, with the other options you need for your tasks. A Front End Loader (FEL) is usually the first option selected. Budget constraint will probably eliminate other models. This stuff takes a while to comprehend.

I personally love my 4105... mind you, it's the only tractor I've ever owned. The 4105 is also a 'bare bones' 41hp HST, which means that I've got plenty of power for what I need a tractor to do without all the 'pretties' like cruise control, an anti-vibration floor or a cab. Now, living in Idaho, you may not be able to give up something like a cab. Me, I'm retired so I'm a fair-weather kind of bloke and the climate is really nice here in NE Tassie.

I've got a CX300 Front End Loader (FEL) with a 4in1 bucket that I swap for a combination hay-spike/forklift attachment.

The 4105 is a Cat 1 3PH.

Mercy!

Not THIS at Post #15!

CCS, is there a reason that you bought this BB without having a tractor to use it with?

Ha, sorry Jeff. Is that a bad question? I figured only a few John Deere Tractors would fit that requirement, no? I see that the 5045E has some 0 percent money on new ones, so maybe that's the best route.

Wagtail, I bought this new because I saw it at a dealership and I knew these things take months to get sometimes. I figured the tractor would be easier, but I think Jeff is thinking I'm a whackjob right about now :)
