How about a comparison of economic growth rates to one of the New Conservative states, maybe Kansas, for an interesting comparison.

That's a fair comparison; in fact comparing California's economy and growth rate to any state anywhere is fair. Kansas, or Oklahoma for that matter, being land locked are denied one very valuable economic engine, namely seaports. California is blessed many times over with seaports, marvelous weather, idyllic landscapes, fantastically fertile soil and great beaches. In fact, California is situated to prosper in spite of a certain amount of ineptitude.

Sure, why not ... in fact, let's just cover all the bases:

You really know how to hurt a guy...with all due respect, however, the cratering of the oil industry has had a tremendous impact on the economy of this state and the resultant budget. Venezuela, however, is in the process of capsizing for the same reason.

Why not tell us about the illegals setting up camps in Central Valley with raw sewage running in open ditches and so much crime police and local sherifs will not enter or patrol. HS

I don't have any connection with the Central Valley so not is a position to have experienced it.

Have plenty of experience with homeless camps in the SF Bay Area and in my 26 years on the job it has never been worse and I spend a portion of each work day dealing with it.

None of the businesses around here can keep a lock that lasts more than a few days on dumpsters and illegal dumpins is a huge problem.

The carswash/detail shop up the street has these large commercial vacuums and the home break into the vacuums to steal the vacuumed contents... they then come to the Hospital and dump is all out looking for coins that may have been vacuumed... I kid you not.

Of course every morning starts with disinfecting the doorways that were used as public urinals overnight...

But I can't speak to Central Valley issues.

I guess you made my point for me, your very very very small world on the peninsula and Santa Clara valley is not typical of much if not any of California. You environment and cage there is artificial, so is the housing market. HS

Portland and Seattle have their share of issues...

Even where I am in Olympia downtown has full blown homeless encampments.

I believe it is only to spread and get worse.

California is attempting to codify making it illegal to discriminate based on past criminal record when it comes to Housing and this is in conjunction with opinions from the Feds...

Feds have stated discrimination based on criminal history is illegal if it disproportionately affects African Americans and Latino population.

The other part is over 21% of street people have a criminal history that has prevented them from housing and employment.
