The Chevrolet dealer wanted $150.00 to recalibrate speedometer and said I could be off as much as 10 mph, so I took a hand held gps unit and it shows me to only be 2mph faster than the speedometer says at at 65 and I wasn't about to pay the dealer that much for that little amount, but without doing it I have to go by what my hand calculations are for mpg.
So that's about 4% off.

Why exactly was it towed home each time?

Chris

Was out of town for a while, so a delayed response.

1st tow: alternator failure; replaced batteries and alternator

2nd tow: Turbo/intake system failure; replaced tube in intake system

3rd tow: alternator failure (again); replaced alternator again

4th tow: fuel system failure; replaced one bank of injectors and fuel filter.

5th tow: fuel system failure: replaced one injector in other bank

Every one of these completely disabled the truck. I was a bit surprised that the electrical failures did that, but the fuel lift pump is electric, and the FICM also needs battery power.

So the alternator failures is just life. The first one probably failed due to the state of the batteries. Weak batteries are tough on Alternators and Starters.

Not sure why a intake tube would fail unless damaged?

The Fuel system issues can probably be traced back to one of 2 things. Poor maintenance prior to you owning it or poor quality fuel. You not driving it much can cause this also.

The intercooler tube is plastic and is known to fail.

I drove a 2012 for a few days at work. The guy it was assigned to drove it with no maintenance (not even oil changes) for 97k miles. The company had to replace the engine and transmission. I drove it to help clear the engine codes after the work was done. Beautiful truck and had gobs of power. And almost 100k of towing miles on the factory oil tells me they are built pretty stout.

Yep...don't buy a used one!

I drive a 2014 F250 with 83k on it as of this afternoon. Lifetime fuel average is 17.6 mag. I put MobilOne Turbo diesel oil in it every 10k miles as recommended by oil test. I pull my 9k lbs tractor round trip 300 miles twice a month and have had zero issues.

Friend at work has a 6.7 diesel with 90k and no problems. He said everything on his truck can be serviced without pulling the cab too-unlike a 6.0 or 6.4. (We both used to be ford techs so that's appealing)

Thanks for all the discussion.

Bought one earlier this week.
2016 F-250 Crew Cab Lariat FX4 Diesel.
Even though I got a really good price, (13K off MSRP) it's still the most I've ever spent on a vehicle. Although, my wife pointed out that it wasn't as much $ as my JD 5085M. :D
So far, I love it. Just put a B&W Turnover Ball in it yesterday, so I'm anxious to pull a trailer.

We bought the B&W too and love it... different trailers around the yard and it makes it so nice.
