L5450 Backhoe

New poster here. I would like to buy a used backhoe for my L5450. Any suggestions what to look for when looking at used hoes - and what to steer clear of?

Also, my tractor does not have remotes. I'm fairly certain I can no longer buy stock Kubota parts for this tractor, but I would really like to the stock slots next to the seat for the remote controls. I'm wondering if I might be able to find a way to retrofit newer Kubota parts to do this.

Wow, talk about beginner's luck... the best possible BH you could find would be the L5412 in your other post. These are very rare to find used, especially with the correct L5450 subframe. It's even priced right. If you've just started looking you might not believe how hard they are to find - but if you don't buy this one you'll likely wish you did. People sometimes look for years until they find one. (like me)

For hydraulic power the optional valves by the seat aren't used. Instead, an alternate hose connecting from the loader's power-beyond hose (green tape) back to a location near the right fender. While powering the BH the 3pt hitch isn't powered but the arms are removed anyway. A separate exhaust hose then runs to the trans reservoir. No need to buy anything special. Thanks for the input Dick. I appreciate the info about the hydraulics. At the moment I'm more confused about the workings of the sub-frame. I most certainly will take you up on the PM offer. I've been looking for other L5450 owners to talk with. This tractor is great and I want to do more to keep it in working order.

Hi Larry - the subframe is just like mine. It installs in place of the rear parts of the loader frame. It has members that come up over the rear axle to the upper wedged pin locations. It is clear from the pictures that whoever put it all on the pallet kept track of the pieces so it would be complete. I can see the wedges are there and the upper adjuster rods, etc. There's some surface rust on the pieces but they'd clean up fine.

To find owners of L3 machines search for posts on L5450, L4850, L4150, L3750, L3, L4350, L3350. People who have L3s usually really like 'em.

I'm admittedly quite late to this thread, but in the event you're still looking for that elusive L5450 backhoe, you might add the L4540A BH to your list. The L4540 and L4540A fit all the L3 tractors, six L models as per Dick's listing above. Here's a few pics of my L4540A on my L5450. I previously used this same backhoe on my L3350. I purchased this BH new around 1990. While this hoe came in several configurations, mine has self contained, internal hydraulic tank and separate Prince 22 gpm PTO pump, thus it does not require remote hydraulics.

The separate hydraulic pump probably gives it good speed and power. My bh92 is fed from the tractor and I have been happy with the speed and power it gives and I don’t have nearly 22 gpm.
