I've been wanting to build this for a year, but just getting around to it now. As with most of my projects, this will be a slow one. The plan is to build a railed in deck this year, and the house portion next year. Deck is 12x12, house will be aprox 12x6 with the roof covering everything and a loft over the deck portion.

Getting ready for the posts

Posts into the trees with 12x3/4" lag bolts. Beam in place just to make sure the posts were level and square to each other.

Beams in place

Braces (used the truck instead of a ladder)

Floor joists going in

That's it for now. Working on rail posts before putting down the decking.

Thanks Jack! Last night I picked up what I hope will be the rest of the material; 128 balasters, a couple more 2x4s, 2x8s, a big box of screws and 5 12x12 cement pads.

Sounds like a fun project and I'm looking forward to following your progress. I've looked around my place for the best place to build one and have decided that if I ever do it, I'm going to fake it and build a tall platform on a high spot with lots of little trees growing around it. Then let the trees grow and hopefully it will look like a treehouse, but wont be dependent on any trees remaining alive to support it. Kind of like what you are doing!!! :)

I think even if it kills those pines, they're big enough that the tree house will survive passed when she's grown and moved out. LOL

Got it all decked and railed in other then the temp. entrance. Started on the permanent entrance.

Ran out of wood, but almost done (for this year at least)

You are building some great memories with/for your daughter!! One day she'll realize how lucky she is to you a dad like you. Hopefully she remembers that during her teenage years!

Thank you. Let's hope she does, but I fully expect some rough times when she becomes a teen... but I think mom will bare the brunt of that storm. LOL

We bought this on sale for $75. Used it camping once and now it'll stay on the tree house until there's a risk of snow. Next year we'll use it camping again. Pretty good value I'd say.
