I suspect they knew the results was not going to be favorable to their desired position.

Good news is shouted/proclaimed.... not so with unfavorable news.

Just something my Grandmother would say to use kids...

I've seen if often at work... plant closing and such are kept quiet... promotions are written up in the company newsletter and dismissals never are.

Would like to know the source for that claim, especially since no report was issued. .

Thanks for posting that ur.

Allowing Facts to interfere with an Agenda........ ? Now that's just crazy talk.

2017 is bad enough, but 2024 !!!! Why didn't they just say Foxtrot Oscar ?

Only a govt department can get away with playing the "we have no data to back up what we are doing, just follow our lead" game. At least, for the time-spans involved. Cult-leaders and stock market scams usually get sorted out/corrected relatively quickly in comparison.

As for public backlash, a big part of the problem is that many people are so technically illiterate and generally disengaged that you could mandate adding "Blinker fluid" to vehicles to Save the Environment ! and they would buy it - both the fable and product.

Some valid argument to that one. But ultrarunner comment you were referencing is a little over the top. "untold financial and safety hardship for millions". If that was the case, there would be a public outrage so loud, nothing could quiet it. We have been using ethanol in gas since the late 70's in my area, and ethanol never comes up in discussions unless it is the beverage version. Lot's of older vehicles running around my area with no evidence of ethanol problems. it is probably better stated that the more complex vehicles and equipment have become, there is more cost to keep them going. Not convinced that ethanol played into it at all. My 1974 Pontiac Catalina carbureted 400 engine didn't seem to mind that it got fed E10 for most of it's life. It must have never gotten the memo that it wouldn't work. Or my 1979 Bronco 351M engine. Same thing. Both went well beyond 250,000 miles before I finally ditched them.

I think it is sort of funny Cornhead calling the pot black.........

The same Consumer Reports that said the 2006 Jeep Liberty Diesel would only get 17 mpg highway. Mine consistently got 32+ mpg highway. Called them on it. They said they use a test container for fuel to guarantee amount. Told them that the common rail diesels have fuel return line as part of metered pressure. Asked if they accounted for that. They blew me and my over 5 million miles experience with diesels off. Haven't really taken anything they say to be gospel anymore.

Not sure what you mean. I don't raise corn and have no dog in that hunt. I could really care less if ethanol is around or not. Only reason I use it is because it is a better value in my area. I am strictly a cost per mile user. If ethanol wasn't delivering a lower cost per mile by using it, I wouldn't.
