I don't go quite that far... the keys are in the house on their usual peg (same as the tractor keys, on the peg above). The house is never locked so if the neighbour were to need either, they know where they are. My ute as a tendency to 'auto-lock' on occasion so I don't leave the keys in when it's shut off.

As to the house never being locked? I've got floor to ceiling french doors... if a thief wanted in they'd simply break a window and open the door anyway :confused3:.

It does take a guest a couple of days to get used to the idea that the house isn't locked at night, and that it's so darned quiet... and dark! They're usually 'cured' the first time they see the Milky Way on a clear, moonless night.

We keep our doors locked when we're gone just to prevent any backlash from the insurance company, on the slim chance we would ever need to file a claim.

Yeah I know, and I've thought about the insurance claim if it were to ever happen, but honestly if the arseholes were to break in they'd break in... + I'd be down a window pane. There are three double french doors and one regular door with its own glass panels; and even if I were to lock them, well, they're going to get in. (on the QT) The local constables will assist when it comes to insurance inquires/claims as long as you're honest with them.

When I lived in North FL we'd often use the "the old Winn Dixie". Then we'd realize that if you hadn't lived there for years you didn't know the old Winn Dixie

My territory for work is the whole state. I constantly get directions "oh, it's easy to find. It's right behind Bob smith's farm, or some other persons place" :banghead:

I have to explain that I live 80 miles from there and have know bloody idea of who he's talking about Give me the closest intersection so I can find it on a map, then north, east, south, or west Then if the farm has a sign out front, give me the name of the farm.

LOL. WD is/was a grocery chain. I think there might be a few left. Back in the 80s they were going pretty strong and there were lots of new stores going in down the street from an old store, then they'd shut down the old one. In the 90s they fell apart and lots of stores just closed. So there were a lot of "OLD Winn Dixies".

As I get older, I can easily remember which businesses were located at certain places in my youth but, have no idea what's there now. I guess it's people my age who give the confusing directions like, " where the Winn Dixie used to be".

Sharn Jean and I took a little antiquing trip to Arkansas a few years back. Consequently, we asked for directions quite a bit, and it almost always started out like this: "Well, you go up here to the WalMart...."

When we moved to town we didn't keep the doors locked. That ended when someone walked in and took some things. They got the best nose hair scissors I ever owned. It's been nearly 30 years and I still miss them.

We rent out a cottage on a weekly basis over the summer months, and one of the most important things I tell the city slickers is they should NOT leave any food or empty beer/pop cans out at night. Now this is normally a hard thing to get them to do - until I mention the word BEARS, and explain that the bears we have are Black Bears - the kind that will eat you.

It's been 5 summers now, and we haven't had a problem yet.:laughing:

They actually went bankrupt and were bought out by Bi-Lo.

I knew a lot of employees that lost their retirements that were in company stock.
