84" Brush hog on a L3560, Ok or too big

I need a bigger brush hog, my 48" is a joke on this L3560 i have, looking at a 72" or 84" But looking for advice on which one to get, the tractor seems to have a crap ton of power Pic for fun <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=477968"/>

Get a 6'..... I had an L3540 and cut more acres than I can count, on different types of terrain and handled different types of growth. This is a good match for the machine.

To the OP, where will you be cutting, what do you currently use your 48" for?

With lighter crops we have had good success with the twin spindle brush hogs made by Bush-Hog and Landpride. These are 7' wide and are offset so it is easy to trim around fences and other obstacles. They are twin wheels for the rear so the ride is real smooth compared to single wheeled brush hogs and only hang back from the tractor about the same as a 42" mower so front ballast is not normally needed.
My preference of the two is the land pride because of the hitch being mounted to the deck instead of on a separate frame. We have been running on your size tractor for pastures and other types of uses with good success.

I would also recommend no larger than a 6' RC. I have a 6' heavy duty on a 50 hp tractor with about 150# of front weights. Going up hill or even loading on a trailer, the front end gets real light. I don't think recommending a larger RC is wise at all. Lots of people have gotten away with lots of thing they shouldn't be doing. All it takes is a lapse in good judgment and an accident happens. Is it worth it?

One other thing about the light duty vs. heavy duty is the light duty cutters usually have .5x3 inch blades and the medium duty have .5X4 inch blades. That's a bit more inertia to overcome while your mowing with the bigger heavier cutter. I have a Landpride 3696 behind my M7040 Kubota and it has plenty of power but has a hard time "digesting" the amount of material I cut when the weeds are tall. I'm talking TALL. like 8 or 10 feet. I have to slow down just cause of the debris under mower that can't be expelled fast enough. If I was you I would try the 6 footer first and if you end up wanting more power sharpen the blades or mow a bit higher. But basically your speed of getting the area mowed is related to your horsepower, not the width of your mower.

That's what I ha e been preaching.

Get a big cutter, provided the tractor can handle the weight. Then go slower mph and enjoy the smoothness.

Speed....In Terms of acres per hour.....is dependent on hp, NOT cutter size

Let's hear a review when you get some hours under your belt with the new equipment. Also take some photos. Curious to see the vegetation your cutting.
