KIds DO NOT belong on lawn mowing equipment

I've seen that too... and we are getting more round-abouts... especially in Lacey

my then 8 yo grandaughter driving my tractor, wearing her school back pack. I drive to the bus stop and she drives it back, while I'd walk. She is the envy of the kids on her bus.

And (horrors), here she is on a lawnmower while her older sister drives the tractor !

Conventional wisdom claims that children shouldn't touch anything sharper than a bowling ball or heavier than a penny so as to avoid injury. When I was a child toys could kill and maim and since stupid hurt, we all got smart and those same toys weeded out the stupid babies so they didn't grow up and become a danger us all.

Delaware county, which I drive through frequently, seems to be going round-about crazy.

It seems like every new intersection they add.....its a round about.

The best I can offer is kids advance differently and what might be age appropriate for one isn't for another.

No truer words were ever spoken. I know of 12 year olds I would hand an AR15 to with complete confidence of a successful outcome. And I know some 32 year olds, I wouldn't hand a cork gun to for fear they would injure themselves or someone else with it. It just depends on the person.

My sons have learned to cut wood, use power tools, swim in a pond, use the lawnmower, drive the gator, plow the driveway with a 4 wheeler, play hockey on a pond, shot a shotgun, rifle, pistol, swim in the ocean - you get the picture. BUT guys, lets not be to cavalier about safety and being careful with our equipment when children are around. Think for one minute how your life would change if you killed your child or grandchild. My point, be safe and use some common sense, children can do the unexpected in the blink of an eye.:2cents:

Ayep. I will have my 7 year old do things that a certain 11 year old cousin isn't trusted to do and there are things that I wouldn't trust a certain 28ish year old sibling to do without injuring themself.

I have not seen to this day any business with a sign telling people not to back into a parking spot! I remember those old cars well and never seemed to have a problem backing them in without overrunning the space but then again some people shouldn't be issued a drivers license to begin with I also recently experienced using a back up camera in a truck. Guy could not hook up his trailer even with the camera I was so un-impressed I used just the side mirror and estimated the distance and got it right the first try! Again some people shouldn't have a license to begin with!!!

Its not the businesses, its city ordinance. And lots of apartment complexes, too. The apartment complexes say its because the car exhaust kills the landscaping.

WHen I was questioned about my nieces safety while teaching her how to safely operate a whitewater kyak I simply replied to the offending person DONT WORRY SHE IS JUST A RENTAL! The look on that ladies face was priceless and she walked away much faster than she approached.

I used to be a lifeguard on a man-made whitewater course. I got in trouble for kicking the mayor out. :laughing:

He jumped a fence to pick up trash and almost fell in. I yelled at him to get back over the fence (I had to yell to be heard over the roar of the water). He did the classic "Do you know who I am?" And I said something like, "Yes I do, and you should know better." :laughing:
