We have an awful lot of "old people" here in Branson and we have several roundabouts now. I haven't heard or seen of any accidents or flying cars in them. Maybe it is just a south bend thing?

This is the roundabout that gives the most troubles. There's a cemetery entrance to the northwest. It used to be that when you exited the cemetery to the north, you just turned left. Then they put in the roundabout. Now, when people leave the cemetery, especially old people that have been going there for decades, they still turn left out of the cemetery to go north! They're supposed to go to the right and go almost 360 degrees to head back north, but they can't comprehend the change. In their defense, its a poorly designed roundabout when it comes to the cemetery exit.

I am sure they will get the hang of it eventually.....and those that don't.... I guess it will just "weed" them out.:shocked:

This jurisdiction has gone nuts for roundabouts, too. We have a couple that are like toys (a really small diameter), that truckers especially dislike. Well, they built one that doesn't even have a raised center...just a big, yellow circle painted on the pavement!

I have no doubt the vast majority of people who have commented here have great idea of what is safe or not safe when being seen in the normal situation. The issue for most people is when emotions get into the decision process such as yes I can because so and so can. Have no doubt we all care about every and any child. We also agree we are only responsible to a certain point for the decisions of another. There have been some good conversation in all this and the best point I think made have been to "THINK" before you do what ever it is. The statement do not operate this till you know how to operate it is good advice and yes it goes for even granddaddies.

Do want to address children on tractors or lawn mowers with steering wheels. To me they offer a real benefit in children learning how to drive for they can see the direct relationship between the action of the steering wheel and the tires which steer it. May be true of some other machines, not saying these are the only ones. I do think that is very helpful info for most drivers have no concept of how the turning of the steering wheel and the true turning of the tires vary. Wonder just how many if you ask them does the front wheels turn the same amount as the steering wheel that would say yes.

Be of good cheer! After roundabout novelty wears out they get removed with increase of traffic.

And actually, there's two cemetery entrances. Only one is in that roundabout, but just 75' south of the roundabout is the entrance to the cemetery across the road.
