This is the typical case of how sulphation kills off a battery. One of those pulsing chargers will prevent it.
As for long term storage, try and Odyssey AGM sometime, they also do better in cold temps than others.

that battery was 8 years old. I got my money out of it I believe.

That 11 year old battery in my Kawi never had one of those magic chargers on it, and it pretty much never got used in winter nor ever had a charger on it. Plus it was parked in an unheated building. Go figure.

yep I had a Toyota factory battery in a car I bought go out in like a month. It was a brand new battery in a used SUV I bought. Panasonic brand from Toy dealer. Went bad less than a month???
