Get a call from the wife at work that she found a bullet hole in the basement window.

Looking at, I'm leaning towards small rock being thrown by me mowing a couple of weeks ago (we don't spend much time in the basement). Did find a VERY small rock (think pebble size) on the deck underneath the window which is making lean in that direction added although it won't go through the hole, almost fits the size of the hole.

Double pane window, nothing on the second layer touched, nor do I see any bullet fragments between the two layers of glass. Have shot some suppressed .22 out back, but on the hill, and looking at the angles, can't see it being a ricochet due to the hill behind the house.

I've seen holes in glass from bullets, the the fragmentation doesn't look like what I'm use to around the entry point, but then again, perhaps that's due to the glass.

A bullet in stable flight will leave a nice round hole, not ragged like that. A ricochet would have much less power but could leave a hole like that I guess. From your description I would lean toward the pebble rather than a bullet.

I also think the hole is from a small pebble / stone. Just my opinion, I think a bullet would have gone thru both panes of glass.

Funny! almost the same thing with me. After thinking a long while that some kid with a bb gun was screwing around, I convinced myself it was from a rock from a weedeater or mower and probably my own fault. Broken only outer pane. Chards laying in the space between panes.

You did say 'double pane', if it were a bullet both panes would have been damaged so your mower is the culprit.

My vote is not a direct hit from a bullet. A throw rock would be a lot more likely.

Thanks.

Will have to show the wife so she doesn't think I'm the culprit LOL

Yes, since the second window wasn't busted, added I found no bullet fragments in the area or between the glass, added with the incline of the hill, probably had the mower two close to the deck and threw it out.

If it were a bullet, it could of only of come from me, and the only way is a ricochet. Thought since I was shooting down hill at some steel plates with subsonic .22, it was possible, but the trajectory would be unlikel. That said, never say never.

I have seen quite a few bullet holes in glass (long ago LEO), I can assure you that is a rock.

Yep it is a rock. Have an almost identical one in my shop window form the mower

I think this covers it well
