Cannot tell if you are being sarcastic or serious:confused: In either case, how is your post even the slightest bit helpful?

Sarcastic. As helpful as yours to a person not listening to what knowledgeable folks are saying.

If you don't trust the braintrust at TBN, just call your dealer and ask them is Shell Rotella T6 in (whatever oil weight is available at Walmart) is OK to use. I would expect them to say he!! yes it is better than what is specified. I am sure the OEM manual doesn't spec full synthetic as required.

murse72: just to soften the tone for you. 1) you are wise with your attention to detail in regards to oil choice on your new tractor. and to post your question here on the forum 2) garyfowler is correct in his endorsement of rotella T6, and his advice to ask your service dealer manager. you could also call central Kubota on that as well. david haggarty years ago was very helpful at central tech.... 3) don't let the sarcasm of some posters get to you. 4) conventional diesel rated dino 15/40 (rotella or other) would probably suit you fine, however i like the cold starting properties of syn 5/40 over the conventional. doing an engine oil change in 40 degree weather with the conventional oil convinced me of that. 5) don't see the benefit of hunting for a 15/40 syn oil when the 5/40 version will give you better cold flow properties..... best of luck in making your decision, you're on the right track.

this went so far from my original question. i was looking for something and everyone told me what i should be using not what i was looking for. As to why i want to go with what they manuel says sort of my nature. i have been an Er nurse/trauma nurse for over 15yrs. You go by evidence based procedures and drug doses. you go by what is written by the drug company as for as doses and procedures that have shown to work. not by what you think. if the manuel says this, that is what i am going by. unless i can get it in writing from kubota

Again, have you called your dealer?

The manual lists MINIMUM specs, 5w40 exceeds 15w40.

The manual may call for many different things. Its okay to EXCEED the mfg's requirements. IE: the manual doesnt call for synthetic oil, yet you insist on using it.....I assume because you believe its better? But the manual dont call for it?

The 5w, and 15w have nothing to do with the oils viscosity. A 5w40, 15w40, and a straight 40 weight oil all have the SAME viscosity.

Again, The SAME. The difference is cold flow. straight 40 will flow like molasses. 15w will flow like a 15w oil. IE: it is a 40 weight oil, but when it cools, it only thickens up to the point a 15w oil would. The 5w40....same principal. But better.

I dont think there is ANYONE on here who uses 15w40 synthetic instead of 5w40. Kinda like throwing money away on synthetic. Just buy dino oil as you are giving up the single biggest reason to go to synthetic. You see, they cannot make dino oil 5w40. The properties of natural oil just dont allow that stable of a viscosity, thus, a 40 weight oil when cold, thickens up quite a bit. Much more so than they can make with synthetics......thus 5w40.

There is a reason you arent finding 15w40 synthetic commonly available.

You are right, people are telling you you shouldnt use what you are looking for.....and for good reason. In a nutshell....1. 5w40 is NOT gonna void the warranty. 2. 5w40 is better than 15w40. But feel free to continue to try and source hard-to-get oil, that is gonna do no better than dino oil, instead of using a truly better product. IF you insist on a 15w40 oil, just go buy plain white jug rotella T. But rotella T5, with a little synthetic blend to improve cold weather (and brings it to a 10w40) is a better choice. And T6, full synthetic, that makes it a 5w40.....even better.

This explains it well. Sometimes the OEM manuals are so out of date that what is specified in them is no longer available. As for 15W40, my Walmart usually carries Shell Rotella T6 full synthetic in several xxW40 grades. Get the one you want but the lower the W number the better it will function in cold weather. In hot or full operation temps, there will be no differences.

For West Monroe, La. you really wont need the 5W or 10W for cold weather since it rarely gets below freezing, but if it is the same price, why not go for the 10W40 or even 5W40? Check the Walmart closest to you and look at the Shell ROTELLA T6 (full synthetic) for optimum performance or the Shell Rotella T (no 6 on it) which is standard dino oil and will be much cheaper if you want to go that route. I think you will find 15W40 in both types.
I use the Shell Rotella T6 in everything I own, lawnmower, tractors, cars, motorcycles, 4 cycle boat engines etc. In my boat I noticed that I get about 200 RPM more using full synthetic oil compared to regular oil of the same weight.

Rpm should be a function of yor load, throttle setting, and governor, not oil.

This thread was a total waste of everybodies time, unless any of us needed practice typing.

By the ops own admission, his first post in the thread was actually a statement... He wants to use the mimim spec fluids for his machine.

Done.
