What are the reasons for NOT using Cruise Control?

A good friend of mine just bought one of those and she loves it. Her husband disables all the features when he drives it.

It was a nice looking vehicle, too.

If I had one of those systems, my problem wiht varying speed wouild be solved. My left thumb is getting carpal tunnel from the constantly shifting speed up/down. Yes, I could take it off and use my foot.

You continually miss the point that I am not the only one you are inconveniencing. You keep coming back to the hills, your variation on the flat aslo has consequences. Vary speed from 52-58!!! Wow!

And I am not the only one on this side of the aisle that you ain't convincing. Again, there seems to be a clear line. With about an equal number (at least here on TBN) on each side.

No need to put words on my mouth either. No where did I ever say that my speed varies by 6mph (52 to 58) anywhere other than the hills. I have already said that I can hold my speed to within 1/2 mph of my target. I just choose not to on hills as it is totally inefficient trying to fight gravity.

There is a 10 mile stretch of state route, comprised of gently rolling hills and curves, between my house and town. I offer this challenge to anyone willing to show up:

We leave my house. You set your cruise at 55, and I'll do my 52-58 thing on the hills and maintain 55 on the flats. We go to town and back. Then we swap vehicles and do it again. You, again using CC at 55 and me doing my thing.

3 things I am certain of.....we will arrive at the same time, I will get better fuel economy on both counts, and you won't have had to slow down on my account.

Now if you wanna fiddle with your CC setting Everytime I get to 58 in anticipation of a hill....deal with the consequences of me going 52 at the top. From my seat, on this side of the aisle....it seems you would be the problem and not me, cause had you just left your CCsetting alone at 55, all would be well.

Again.....you seem to be of the mindset that you need to maintain a constant distance rather than a constant speed. So that's on you, not me. If you are of the mindset you want to maintain a constant speed, and stop fiddling with your accel/decel buttons Everytime the gap changes all will be well

I've long marveled at the number of bad drivers on the roads, and this thread proves that they include many of our TBN members.

Thats laughable. You clearly dont understand the meaning of a troll. Just because you dont agree with me doesnt make me a troll. Do you call everyone a troll that you dont agree with their side/stance on a topic? There have been several other highly debated topics here on TBN. Like R1 vs R4. IF I like R1 and you like R4, and we are in a thread discussing such, do you start calling all the members in the R1 camp trolls? Or hst vs gear? IF you like gear, does that make all those that tout HST Trolls? This is a good thread that has remained civil and brought out some good discussion. Dont be the guy that ruins that.

I can see some definite differences in "road traffic" between where a lot of us live and here in Ea WA. Here in Ea WA is not difficult at all to have 1/2 mile or more between my car/motorcycle and any vehicle either ahead or behind me. Sooo... if I set my CC and you don't, we may only have momentary interaction, as we pass each other, and then both go on our own way. Its not uncommon, when on my motorcycle, to go 20-30, even 50 miles and never see another vehicle.

However - I will admit that I seldom travel the major highways(ex - I-90) and avoid large town(ex - Spokane or Seattle) with a passion. I ride for the pure pleasure of "face in the wind" and like most, don't appreciate the driving techniques of many.

Those many year ago when I worked - I would go out of my way to take the back roads getting to work. Going the extra miles meant I arrived in a good mood and avoided most of the situations discussed here. Life is just too short to be involved in any altercation or accident.

I'm convinced, most of you pro cruise control guys need to be sitting in the back seat of an autonomous driving car, sipping your latte.

+1

Anyone who thinks when you have a line of vehicles all traveling together, that each vehicle in the line must go a little slower than the first to maintain the line and positions, cannot be reasoned with. They cannot understand normal thinking or logic.
