I got part of the section for the orchard opened up. I got some smaller trees to remove as well as some atlanthis (sp) trees that need cut and treated with some nasty herbicide.

Got all but a small little bit cleared, that has the Ailanthus trees in it that need treated as they're rhizome based.

Overall made some good progress today in my 3hr work window.

After I get the Ailanthus cut and treated, then I can rip it out. Then I can bottom plow the orchard and prepare for Rye.

Nice. But if you have deer anywhere near there they will share your orchard and garden unless you manage to keep them out somehow. We have an 8 foot chain link fence around most of the garden and orchard - just not on the house side of it. They eventually became bold enough to go thru the yard and into the orchard. And they can jump. I mean really jump - so any fence will have to be formidable. The have taken out plums, blueberries, asian pears, persimmons and more. What we are now trying (too early to tell how it will work out over the long haul) is a solar light mounted on a post which is triggered by motion. We set this up after we discovered that they would take off as soon as we heard them and shined a spotlight their way. A smaller fence with a dog may also work. I am sure there are readers who are more experienced than I am about this - but I just thought I should mention this. You may already have a plan.

Yup. Theres deer.

Taking a two pronged approach.

1) Hunting. Myself and a few friend. 4 stands setup on the property.

2) Some sort of fencing. Haven't fully landed this one yet. Still working on the particulars.
