Rather than hijack the gassy dog thread, I thought I would start another. We have a boxer that is running a bit loose on his stool. I worry about "motor gut", something I have seen in boxers in the past. We have been feeding him Earthborn brand Primitive Natural. I am wondering if this food is just a bit too high in protein or something for him? Before we get to tweaking his feed or take him to the vet I thought that I would ask around to others what they have their boxers on? I have another boxer on it with no issues. Actually, she was on it when we got her which is how we got introduced to it.

Switch dog food and see if it continues.

We have one that had issues. Combination of finding the right food, probiotic and a bowl designed to slow eating have mostly resolved it.

you may try adding a couple spoonfuls of 100% pure pumpkin - that seems to help with tummy/digestive issues..

Our older Siberian Husky started having problems like you describe. The vet prescribed a lower-fat food. It comes in both dry and canned formulas It was Royal Canin brand. There are others available. Along with a powder probiotic, (one small packet per meal) the problem went away in a few days.

After solving the problem, we found a lower fat dry and canned food at the dog food store. The cost was slightly cheaper than the vet

Pumpkin is what we gave our dog for being stopped up, sounds like yours is not having that problem. Ed

What color is the stool and is when you say loose do you mean soft serve or watery? Also what's the smell? Does it smell like poop or does it smell like dogfood?

The color is a light brown and more like soft serve. It smells like it should, not like dog food.

Adding some pumpkin has improved his movements a little but not enough. He is due for a Triflex. After that, if there is no change I am going to slowly introduce him to another type of feed.

I should have bloodwork done on him but to be honest, that would probably run some 275-300 dollars. What with seven dogs, seven horses and five cats to care for, running to the vet for every little thing is not my first option.
