Best way to shut down PTO with wood chipper

If the chipper itself has an ORC, or there is an added ORC on the tractor pto externally.....like everyone uses on the old ford N tractors.....then there is no worry about shut down.

But if neither, let the tractor slow down to idle, as low as it will go, before shutting off. Same for any other high inertia implements like a bushhog.

I cannot for the life of me understand why they though it was good to get rid of the clutch. I know in "theory" that it is not needed. I still use it both engaging and disengaging the PTO on my MX5100. Also when mowing, and hit a stump, rock, wad of fence, etc. Its nice to be able to just stomp on that clutch in a panic, and not worry about weather the hydraulics will lift high enough to clear whatever the mower is chewing up.....especially if I have the hydraulic toplink in float.

I would NOT want a tractor without a clutch for those very reasons.

L4330 here and a Morbark Eager Beever chipper. I'm not sure if the chipper or the PTO or both have an overrun clutch, but when I disengage the (electric clutch) PTO, the chipper slowly spools down at its own rate regardless of clutching or engine RPM. Thus it's clear to me that the chipper is imposing no load on the PTO so how I disengage is unimportant. When engaging ALL driven implements, I do engage the PTO at low RPM, clutch disengaged, then gently engage the clutch, then ramp up the RPMs. No sense in doing anything to shock any drive components unnecessarily.

Have to agree there! I slowly engage my chipper at low rpms then once the clutch is fully out I slowly ramp it up to full speed. Even when I am done I hit the clutch in disengage the PTO then keep my clutch in until the chipper stops spinning. First time I shut it down without keeping the clutch in until it was done spinning I snapped the shear bolt so I quickly learned that was not a good idea.....

I used to feel this way until we got some barn cats to keep the mice in check. I always get a kick when they bring thier kill for me to see. All sorts of stuff from birds to prairie dogs. They stay outside and are always got scrapes and bruises from fighting with each other and hunting. Mice population is almost non existent around the house which also keeps the snakes away. We lose about 2 per year from owls and coyotes. We even had one come home without a tail one day. LOL.

I brother has a worthless inside cat that is declawed. That type of cat I have no use for as it serves no real purpose other than stinking up the house and hacking up furballs.

Or pets.

What purpose do dogs serve the average person?

I have found that most who talk crap about cats........its just that......talk. They think they sound "cool".

I have a house cat/pet. Shes lazy. But about 3 times a year she brings me a mouse:thumbsup:
