Best way to shut down PTO with wood chipper

/ Best way to shut down PTO with wood chipper #42
I wasn't going to post this because I'm sure there are a million reasons why it's a bad idea but for what it's worth here goes. If you have nothing hooked up to your mid PTO and your tractor has a lever that lets you run the back/front and back/front PTO, start your chipper at dead idle and all that but with the PTO lever in front and back position. Then when you are ready to shut down, idle the engine down then just slide that lever into front only position then shut the PTO off and the back one will free wheel. At least that is how it works on my john Deere and I use that method hooking up as well so I can spin the PTO shaft to line it up, otherwise the brake is on and there is no moving it.
