FoodSaver Vacum Sealer

I used to think the same way until the Mrs showed me all the uses for preserving and keeping foods fresh. I can have three year old coffee beans that are as fresh as new and fish, vegetables or whatever long past it's sell-by date and can't tell the difference. Try it; you'll like it.

Thanks, you have convinced me. I'm going to go for it.

Yep, you are right. I read it on the Internet so it must be true!:laughing::laughing::laughing:

How did she dehydrate the corn?

Later,
Dan

She has a dehydrator and said that you cook it, cut it off the cob and set it on trays for 8 or 10 hours and it dehydrates. Cooking it means just like you were getting ready to eat it as corn on the cob.

We just got some new cable TV "set top boxes" the other day as our cable system is doing away with analog signals and going all digital. Anyway I futzed around with the new remote control for about 10 minutes to figure out how to pair the tv with the new remote and then broke down and read the chintzy little manual they sent with it. It took less than 10 seconds to do it after reading the instructions. A couple of days later, I realized on the back of the remote, those same simple instructions were printed on it in white lettering. :confused2: RTFM... Read The Fine Manual indeed.:)
I thought analog was dead a decade ago... maybe you Mizzuri boys are behind?

That is interesting. Never thought about drying corn with our dehydrator but I remember seeing dried corn in the store. Seems like my mom would make a dish out of dried corn.....

Using ours now.
Costco run yesterday.
5lb shredded cheese portioned into 10 bags.
3lbs sliced into 9 bags.
I learned to put stuff like the cheese into a ziplock type resealable first, then once opened it can be resealed and sometimes to vac bag reused.
I also split their large tray of ground beef into 4 or more smaller portions.
Steaks get divided into packs of two, usually preseasoned before bagging and freezing.
Sometimes we get their stuffed salmon, but again to much for the two of us so divided.
One good thing about the smaller packages, I can always take more than one from the freezer.

Nope, nor us Noreasters.

Your are right sort of- in that broadcast TV has been digital for years, but some cable companies are just now slowly moving to all-digital signals.

I just got my notice from TWC that they are moving in that direction piecemeal, and if I don't want to lose my ability to watch some obscure channels next month, I should pay them more money now for a digital box for EACH TV we want to receive cable on.

For me, it mainly means that I'll prolly finally be able to get my wife to agree to stop CATV in favor of a combination of high-speed internet and the broadcast TV antenna and digital converters I have been trying to get her use for the past 5 years since I bought and installed them along with the digital signal amplifier.

Now- back to your previously recorded thread:

That sweet corn trick will be tried here next summer, as we love the stuff, but hate it going old, stale or starchy.

Please be more explicit about using ziploc bags?

How do you get the vacuum to empty the ziploc adequately once they are inside the vac seal bags?

It seemed to me that even if you left the mouth of it unsealed, it would rather quickly get squeezed together by the vacuum effect on the outer bag.??

Thanks!
Thomas

For the ziplock bags, most sealers have a port on top that you can plug a tube in for sealing jar lids so equipped, it can be put in one end of a mostly-zipped bag to vac it out, then pull and close the last bit quickly.

I get 5 pound bags of shredded cheese and reseal the bag after I get a container out to use from. Cut and reseal several time in the course. Sometimes you don't get as good a vacuum because the plastic isn't the right design, but it keeps the air out.

Exactly. IMHO, it's not really a vacuum that you need, just an almost total lack of air. ALMOST the same thing. Of course, total vacuum is best, at least to the degree that these machines can do it. They are not going to be useful to evacuate your tractor A/C system before recharging.
