Grapple Grapple Advice: single lid or dual lid?

Yeah Richard, but you can't pull out little saplings one at a time like I can. :D

Long story short, to the original poster, cricketman. You are going to love the heck out of what ever grapple system you get, bar none.

[Just about?] ANY thumb is WAY better than NO thumb!

One will always run across something that one cannot do with what they have. That's what equipment rental places are for ;) If I need something more specialized and for infrequent use I go talk to my equipment rental guy.

I'd state how great my grapple works, but, sigh, I'm still waiting to measure for the front hydraulics! (been too busy)

I don't have a grapple but would like one. I've thought plenty about it and what would best serve me. The four basic options seamed to have been talked about here. Both the single and dual thumb grapples, a grapple with forks, and a grapple that works with a bucket. As for single vs dual goes, here's my take (like every opinion you get what you pay for). It really comes down to weight and cost vs more adaptability.

If your intent is to lift loads that are near the max for your loader then weight will have to be factored in. Cost is a personal issue, can't help you there. A dual will work better with loads that are uneven and require more than one point to secure them.

I think I'm set on getting an adjustable height add a grapple for a set of forks. A dedicated grapple is good for just grapple type of work. A set of forks are very useful. Plus with a little work I should be able to mount it to the back of my bucket so I can use the grapple with it. I think between the forks and a bucket I should be able to do most of what a grapple would be able to do.

Everything I know about grapples I learned from James and Richard, so I have a dual lid and my brother a single; we're both happy.:)

Way to go Larry. No personal responsibility. Totally dumped it on James and I. Way to go........ ;)

Oh no, he wouldn't do that, it was purely accidental!!!!

He's just bitter cause we talked him into spending all that money..... He's like that....... ;)

Actually, come to think of it, we didn't talk him into anything!!!!! He repeatedly said he didn't need one. Then all of a sudden he was buying two!!!!!

I have all three and one thing you will not be able to do without a grapple is brush clearing and hauling effectively.
